Guys....Agodspeed posted this to simply start a flame war. This as absolutely NOTHING To do with general hardware. Please just stop the arguing and realize you're playing into exactly what he wants.

People obviously don't understand marketing. This is marketing bs. ALL companies do it. I just have one question..... Is the AMD PR System BS? What exactly are they basing it on? Something they choose, or that a group that is non-interest? And, you do realize that AMD had commercials and AD's telling everyone that THEY had the fastest CPU a 1gig (and even going as far to beat intel to the release date). But then they start losing the mhz war against the p4 and all the sudden mhz don't mean anything? So they are backtracking and going against everything they first said? Is that any different than Intel selecting benchmarks? Nope, AMD is just trying to stay in business also. It's all manipulation, thats marketing for you!

There was NO point in posting this or anything from the inquirer about marketing slicks that aren't known to come from a legitimate source. Secondly...Show us exactly WHERE this has been given out to the consumers..and then we have a problem (Also show me this is real first). otherwise, why the HELL Are you guys fighting about something that some website got that no one else has ever seen? Even IF Intel made this, it hasn't seen the day of light to anyone that we know of, so what does it matter?

Chill out and quit the fighting.

ssanches - "Intel has NEVER done anything good for the consumer" Spoken like a true retard.

The funny thing is....the people who are now using AMD that are beating down Intel, are the same losers that were here going "WOW MY NEW P3 500mhz IS AWESOME!!!!. Intel ROCKS!!". You're just bandwaggon people and you wanna look cool. Both chips rock...Both chips gear themselves to SEPERATE MARKETS. You guys just dont like the prices...DONT BUY IT. But DONT complain about the people who are buying them and enjoying them!!!! It's like a Chevy person sitting at a Ford lot all day telling the Ford people they are spending too much money and their truck is better! That's simply NOT true and everyone deserves and has their own opinion. It simply doesnt make your chip better if you trash the other one and other peoples choices.

No, AMD said had the fastest x86 microprocessor based on performance, not MHz. There is a difference. Intel countered with the Coppermine, which was only faster in select instances but that didn't stop Intel from claiming the speed title over it. AMD once again came back with Thunderbird and reclaimed the mythical performance title. Intel countered tit for tat by releasing the Pentium 4, which had more MHz but lacked any performance edge.

Bandwagoners, eh? Most are bandwagoners that are trumping the OC'd Pentium 4 and the OC'd XP's? I got the impression that alot of them are zealots, bent on the brandname more than the OC. Are you sure these zealots have crossed the battlelines?

I do agree that both companies are releasing decent chips. Its ironic to me that so many OC'd Pentium 4's are run memory starved on DDR designs rather than high bandwidth RDRAM. Its also ironic that XP OC'ers are using 1700+'s to OC when so many 1500+'s are making 2000+ equivalent ramp-ups. The most macho of all OC'ers would be trying the most efficient OC, if they were worth their weight in salt. As for the rest of us we all benefit immensily from these powerhungry fools. ;)

Nah AMD knew exactly they were gunning for Mhz. There was a reason they released the 1gig chip 3 days before Intel. The Athlon and P3 at the time were almost identical in speed...no real difference. Admitted they had a good architecture, but they knew people wanted more MHZ. AMD knows better than to tout x86 microprocessor performance (Something the normal persona wouldnt know jack about). So they were ramping up speeds faster than Intel. AMD was definately playing the mhz game and you could tell by the production schedules and their marketing material (ad's and comercials). Then they lost the Mhz wars, they claim that mhz doesnt matter (which it doesnt mean everything, but they should have been saying that stuff to begin with), they resort to the PR Rating. Either way, people jumped Intel ship in this community and now dog Intel = same people who were praising intel just 2 years ago or shorter.

Simply put in all of this. Both of them are COMPANIES. You shouldn't praise either one. They both lie cheat and steal to get your money. AMD/Intel is not some perfect company like you zelots thing. They make a product to get your money. They dont really care what you think or so...as long as you are dropping those $$$. Just be happy with what you can buy, and don't dog other products. It only makes you seem lame.

I'm sorry but I have to take Intel's side on this one, AMD returning to PR ratings is a bunch of BS.

Wow, a whopping three days! Nobody wastes a million dollar ad campaign on 3 days of a 1.0GHz monopoly. AMD's performance crown was after that, leaning me to believe their claim was not exactly MHz based. ;) If you remember Intel promptly pushed out a 1.13GHz chip to everyone's surprise, in order to win the speed crown on MHz. The early release backfired on them and the recall gave AMD the mythical performance crown once again.

<<I'm sorry but I have to take Intel's side on this one, AMD returning to PR ratings is a bunch of BS.>>

Nah, ramping MHz is BS. Intel could have pushed the P!!!-T core much further because of its IPC, but they crippled it in order to keep P4 on top. The truth is that Intel has been the one thats putting up the smokescreens, and AMD has to fight the fire with smoke of their own.

<< I have enough faith in The Inquirer to believe that they wouldn't just make this entire document up with Photoshop or whatever. >>

This just sounds funny if your first thought is the magazine :D

Bottom line, ANYONE who thinks EITHER of these companies have morals, a sense of fair play, or care about the consumer is a sucker.

Do you realise how far behind Intel would be in the performance curve compared with AMD if they took this route? I mean, the P3 only went to 1.1GHz (Celeron) in 0.18 compared with 1.67Ghz+ for AMD currently. Even using 0.13 the P3S only goes to 1.4Ghz currently, still lower in MHz and performance compared with the Athlon XP. Just face it, the P3 core is completely obsolete. No 'IPC' in the world can save it.

Ironically, if Intel hadn't released the P4 and stuck with the P3 AMD probably wouldn't have released all those high speed grades Athlon XP because they wouldn't have needed to in order to stay in the lead. The P4 core offers higher performance over the P3 core on an absolute basis, period.

"The truth is that Intel has been the one thats putting up the smokescreens, and AMD has to fight the fire with smoke of their own. "

You just proved the point i was trying to make. BOTH Companies do these things. This post was just singling out Intel, but AMD does its own share of FUD.

Of course Intel is ramping up Mhz! That's basically what the whole P4 is about. I never denyed that. But i do believe AMD is doing the same.

"Wow, a whopping three days! Nobody wastes a million dollar ad campaign on 3 days of a 1.0GHz monopoly" Apparently you don't understand marketing. AMD WAS trying to bank on getting their name out there as the first 1gig CPU!! LOL Thats the whole reason. 3 days was a big deal for them. They then held the title of first company to 1gig, which is something that last much longer than the actual three days the product was out. IT was to get consumers attention and have the company noticed. Marketing boys marketing :D They were not wasting a million dollars in their eyes. They were promoting commercials, ads in comp mags, and online advertising.

Question. If Mhz is such a Myth, why is it everytime Intel puts out a new product (back in Athlon Days) that AMD followed suit and released almost the same time and higher speeds, trying to outdo Intel. If this Myth is just that a Myth..and if AMD doesnt care about marketing to mhz. Think about it.

LikeLinus, I've had to correct your comments in so many threads that it's gotten to the point were it's just plain funny. I would appreciate it if you were to stop taking large dumps in this or any other thread I ever create. And that means never post in any of my threads. ;)

This wasn't intended to start a flame war. But it seems people just aren't mature enough, and I understand.

LikeLinus, I won't even address your posts, that would be a waste of my time.

This thread should die right here. Don't post people.

MHz in marketing is gold. MHz in performance is a myth. Back in the day the Coppermine and Athlon performed pretty much the same clock for clock, so which ever company had the higher clock rate had the better performance. That can't be said anymore with P4 vs Athlon. Intel isn't cheating or morally wronging the customer with inflated clock rates, they just chose a different route than AMD. Currently the Northwood is the fastest CPU available, even before overclocking, the fact it takes an additional GHz to do it, is irrelevant. Performance is performance regardless of how you get there.

You start a thread thats pure flame bait and then get mad when everyone flames you so you edit out your posts and start crying like baby, dude you got problems.
