Burning Troubles....

good morning everyone

I recently have put together a system and am having trouble with the CD burner. Following are the details. Can anybody help?

SETUP
amd xp 2400
Soltek 75-MRN-L
2x256 333 DDR RAM
WD 40G 7200rpm (Master primary IDE)
LiteOn DVD-ROM (Slave secondary IDE)
LiteOn 48x24x48 CD-RW (Master secondary IDE)

Burning software - NERO 5.1x

Windows XP Home (NTSF)

PROBLEM
The CD Burner works perfectly when the software is set to 'copy CD'. It works with image creation and 'on the fly' options.

But...It will not work when I try to burn data CD's (this has been tried with all file types and all burning speeds). It will prepare to burn, the burner will spin up for about 5 seconds, then wind down. Immediately after this, the following error is logged:

'SCSI/IDE abort'

I have checked all jumper settings - they are correct, as are the IDE BIOS settings (to my knowledge anyway)

I have tried dragging and dropping within Windows XP to the burner. This also does not work (the same spin up, and down occurs).

Can anyone spot the problem? or have any ideas on fixing this issue?

Thanks,
john

SCSI/IDE Command Aborted
If the error message SCSI/IDE Command aborted occurs:

Please check if there is a program accessing the burner. Please deactivate the option switch off the automatic to be deactivated for the drives. In particular if the error message only occurs actually during the burning process and not during the simulation.
Please check if the APM is active and if so, deactivate it.
Please check if background programs such as antivirus programs are active. Please close them down for the duration of the burning process.
If it is a case of a SCSI device, then please check the settings in the SCSI-BIOS . In particular Sync Negotiation should be set to yes .
If you use SCSI devices and a relatively large number of devices are connected to the SCSI-Bus, then you should please check if the SCSI-Bus may be overloaded and whether this can be solved by setting the maximum data transfer rate and by updating theWinASPI drivers.
If you are using an Adaptec SCSI hostadapter, the newest WinASPI drivers should be installed.
Please check if drivers of other CD burner programs should be loaded and if necessary deactivate these. (For example, if more than 78 minutes is to be burned, the above mentioned error message appears)

Welcome to the forums :) There's a known issue with WinXP and the nForce2 drivers, but there's a pretty easy solution too. Download the nVidia driver pack from nVidia, run the installer, and see if it fixes the issue for you. This driver pack, the 2.41 version, was just released in the last 24 hours and should address the problem. Let us know how it goes! :)
