I have a ton of stuff that I need backed up on CD. Can you hurt the burner by making too many CD's in a day?

Thanks for the help guys

i used to be like this too ... i was worried about ruining my cd burner if i burned too much in a day ...

but now i figure ... sometimes running motors (like in a cd drive) for extended periods may even extend its life since they motors aren't sitting around (since motors that sit around for a long time tend not to work later)

i also figure since cd burners are so cheap .. i'm gonna burn as much as i want .. and if it dies, i'll just buy a better, faster one (and probably for cheaper too)

=P

I doubt it is bad for a burner. I burned at least 50 discs in one day and my burner (a lite-on 16x) is still working just fine.

FIFTY in a day!! that's pretty impressive. thanks for the input guys, it's great to get several opinions and bruincal has a good point. if it breaks, oh well buy a better one for cheaper!

thanks again!

If you look at the MTBF (mean time before failure) number on your CD-RW drive, you?ll see that it is a fairly trouble-free device. I think you?d be scraping the system and upgrading, long before you ever wear it out. 😉

On that other hand... define ?a ton? 🙂
