Burning software not recognizing my drives

I had a trial copy of Clone on my computer, Windows XP, that expired yesterday. I just went ahead and un-installed it. I also went into regedit and tried to git rid of any traces of it and deleted a couple of .dll files. Yes stupid, I am aware! Now Nero 5.0 will not recognize my 2 Lite On drives. The DVD ROM is a LTD163D and the burner is a Lite On 32123S. They were both recognized and working great with Nero prior to my trying to get rid of Clone. I also tried to load Easy CD Creator 5 and it wouldn't recognize them either. I also tried the option of manually trying to get the software to "find" the drives. Both drives work fine other wise and are fully recognized in my device manager.
What should I do. Can I just re-install the drives. If so what steps do I need to take?
Thanks in advance!
Victor

you have the latest versions of the program?

The Nero is version 5.5. The thing is they were both recognized fine prior to the removal of "Clone". I suppose that would be a good place to start however. I have tried un-installing the software and then installing it again.
