Burning pr0n CDs, I mean, video CDs

I went to burn a video cd with some .avi and .mpgs. you know, cool music videos, etc. wink, wink

The thing is, it was taking FOREVER! It said "encoding" and after 30 mins I quit. What's up with that?

I assume you're using Nero?

In making a VCD, it's not like you're just burning it onto the CD and then it will be played in a DVD player or something. It needs to be burned onto the CD in a way so that your DVD player can read it.. as a VCD.

IF you're trying to burn an .AVI file, Nero needs to make it VCD compatible. In my experiences, .MPG's go straight to the burning process. AVI's need to be "encoded" into an MPG file (in a way) so that your DVD player can read it as a VCD.

So.. you'll need to wait. What kind of system do you have? If you're burning a whole 650-700mb CD worth, it'll generally take you 1 - 3 hours for it to just finish encoding and then start burning. Well.. that depends on your system and what you're burning exactly. If they're mostly AVI's then obviously it'll take longer.

use a program like TmpgEnc to encode those .avi to .mpeg format. then burn as usual..

ive heard that nero isnt the best for encoding.. best to use a 3rd party program. it's freeware and can be had at vcdhelp

Yes, using Nero. Sorry about that.

I'm not going to be playing them on a DVD (I, sniff, don't have one, sniff), but I smell what you're cooking. lol I want to put some cool video clips on CD to free up hard disk space. I want to play them back with WMP at my own leisure.

I have a Duron 900MHz with 256MB.

I think I will look to re-encode them to .mpg to avoid the hassle.

thanks for the advice.

if you're only going to view the data with your computer, there is no need to go VCD.
just burn as a data cd
