Greetings all,

Here i am again with a new question that will hopefully get more luck with the replies :)

I'am trying to burn data over to a network drive but the burning software (nero v 7+) doesn't seem to detect the shared optical drive i want to use.

My config is as follow:

-2 PC's on the same LAN (and i can move files up/down)
-Only PC #1 has a cd/dvd burner and the files to be burned
-PC #2 has the burning software (and i really dont want Nero on PC1)

Here below are the solutions that i so far came accross online:

-Neronet : for this to work, one needs to have nero (with 2 distinct licences keys) for each computer
-Microsoft iScsi Initiator : this is giving me more headache than my initial problem so i quickly closed it and face one issue at a time.

Is there a solution for what im trying to do ? please come forward and share your experience.

NB: i do have another burning software (Burrrn) on PC #1 but it doesnt give me the option to open a partially filled Dvd in other to view and add some more files/folders as Nero will let me do.

In advance thank you for your input, much appreciated.

I have NO idea, but this does pose a very interesting question.

I will look into it when I get back to work on Monday.

Network traffic varies and it is easily can end up with a coaster, as a result Burners are not set to recognize network Drives.

You have a network, so copy the files first to a local temp directory and Burn.

Hehe, ah true what you said, but im trying to be a real Englishman with money :)
A new drive will solve my problem for sure, and as matter of fact i have one external burner but it doesnt do Dvd's :( and i dont want to throw it, its just 5 years old.

I tried that option and even share my C$ drives in hope to make it work but no luck so far. i could access the files no matter what computer i use but to get the optical drive recognise by nero has not happen yet.

Thank you all for your imput.

Open up the external housing. Remove the CD drive. Put the CD drive into PC#1 and put PC#1's DVD burner into the external housing.

Now you have an external DVD drive that you can attach to either PC.

Good Lord, the bloody external drive has PATA connectors whereby the other drive is SATA, im doomed i guess. Was so freaky excited to finally solve this matter...
However, thank you for the suggestion REbateMonger, its a cool finding for later use hopefully, if the enclosures will stop putting up resistance.

My hope now resides in an alternative software solution, if any.

Thanks for your assistance.

id think you could just buy an enclosure to fit what you need if you poked around just a tad.

hehe, the enclosure will cost as much as a new optical drive, or at least half of it. My hand refuses to comply to the order i issued to grab my wallet :)
Naughty hand !!

Why torture yourself with lost time, hassle, and productivity for $30?

Or you can do as Jack said, copy the file(s) to your local machine to burn instead of trying to do it the hard way.

Let see you posted more than 24 hours ago.

In this 24 hours I went to a local chain and worked 8 hours for $8 an hour. I made $64 and got two nice DVD burners. :D

Hehe, you both are certainly right about the purchasing of a new drive to cut everything short, and i shall consider rolling that way.

However i will still love to master the Over Network Burning technics with the configuration i have/had, detailed at the begining of the topic.

PS: its not about accessing the files over the network that is causing the problem, but rather the burning software located on a machine with no optical drive at all.
It will really be sweet to know how to proceed, without that optical drive in PC #2

Thank you all for your reactions,

Edit point: If you know of a software that does what Nero allows one to do (viewing and adding files on a partially filled CD/DVD) and that is not as heavy as Nero and is Freeware, please give me a hint.
