burning issue

Howdy everyone,

I just built a "new"system. These were mostly parts given to me by some friends who have upgraded.

The system is: Soyo MB KT333 Dragon Lite, XP 2100+ processor, 512 meg of DDR PC 2700, AOpen Geforce Ti 4200 w/ 128 DDR, an old 2X Acer CD-RW.

The burning issue? It's the burner. It works with Easy CD-DA extractor to create cd's, but Nero, Roxio, even CDR tools burner, etc., won't burn cd's. The software loads fine, works up to the point of actually making a cd, but just freezes. Easy CD-DA extractor will make an audio CD from mp3's though. I have tried swapping the CD-R's to other machines to test the burners (I took another old 8x creative drive and tried it too, same lock-up) and they worked perfectly, they just won't work on this configuration.

BTW, this is my first AMD aside from my old 486 SX chip. it's temp is 49 C after a round of UT2003. Is this too high of a temp? I have a thermaltake volcano 7 for my cooler. It seems to run perfectly aside from the burner weirdness.

Thanks,

Mikidy

Did you install the motherboard drivers (VIA 4-in-1 drivers)? Also, if you go into Windows Device Manager and expand the IDE Controller to show the primary and secondary controllers, then go to their Advanced Properties and look at the DMA mode, is your drive running in DMA mode (hopefully yes)?

Also, if you haven't done so, you might want to download the latest updates for your software. Welcome to the Forums :)

49 C is a fine temp.

A 2X burner? That's pretty damn old. I'm willing to bet that the burning software simply cannot fully recognize/work with that burner. Why not pick up a new one? Even the fastest ones can be had for under $50. Check out the Hot Deals forum.
