Im in, but with a little twist....
I got a 24X TDK(Liteon) today for 129.99
2 rebates at $70
I put this all on my Best Buy Card..

Halway home, I remembered that I could have put it on my Amex Blue card and looked for lower prices over the next 60 days..
But then I would not have gotten the BB $20 rebate..(or would I have??)

Anyway, went back to BB, had them credit my BB card and issue the charge on my Amex card....but I still have the original rebate receipts...oh well...I should be able to PM it for at least $20 less than 129.99 in the next 60 days...only cost me about $70(with rebates) minus whatever I can PM Blue it for down ther road...

the BIG QUESTION IS: 😕😕😕😕😕
Has anyone successfully updated the firmware to make this an SD2/Liteon Drive???

Inquiring minds NEED to know....

thx

Well my Dad and I got them today. We called ahead asking them to hold them at the 59.99 price cause the price went back up today. We got there and got our two burners for 59.99. About the price going back up. The current price at the best buy we went to in washington was 129.99-20mir-50mir. They just added 70 dollars worth of mirs. When my dad and I went up to the register, paid, the register printed out for us, 4 rebates!!!! So:

59.99
*1.088
-------------
65.27
-20
-50
------------
-4.73!!!!

My Dad and I are going to get paid 4.7 each for our new burners. THis deal rocks and thanks to the original poster for this.

Hello everyone,

First post here...but I have been following this thread with MUCH interest and this forum for a little while now. I appreciate all the deals posted here and hope I can post when I find them too.

Here is my question. Where is this $20 BB Rebate???? I have been to my BB three (3) times this week trying to PM, carrying in competitors ads, scanned receipts, scanned shelf tags.....all to no avail. 🙁

And the kicker is this. I now have a BB with shelves full of these drives (came in Tue afternoon, and still stocked as of Wed night) which ring as $129 less a $50 MIR only.....BUT no $20 MIR!!

What gives?? I see an older rebate on BB website which expired on 12/31/2001 for $20...but no CURRENT one.

Where IS this $20 rebate?? Could someone PLEASE provide a link or a scan of it so that I can retain my sanity???

Thank you very much. (Damn I hate BB, but I would love to get this deal before it dies...even if I have to pay $59)

I refuse to pay $79. 🙂
JFF😀

JustForFUn: HEy man, like when you go buy it, it'll print out you the $50 and $20 . Well at least this is the case with most people now.

Ripper,

Thanks for the reply. That is what I am saying. MY BB is NOT printing the $20 rebate. All they give you is the $50! I even had them look on their computers to make sure just which rebates ther are for this drive. All they show is the $50.

I am almost convinced that the $20 rebate people keep referring to here is the EXPIRED one listed on BB website. Is anybody checking their rebate slips??

PLEASE show me a scan or link to a CURRENT rebate. My store has NO record of such a beast!

Thanks.

JFF😀🙁

argh!! if anyone can find a published version of bestbuy's policies that say bestbuy will honor the lowest sale price within thirty days for all new purchaces, PLEASE post a link. is that even what their policy is?!

Can anybody teach me how to PM with dukat1's receipt?? I just was the receipt online and it's from a store in MI. I'm in MI so I guess this deal will work for me. Do you print it out to show them or ask them to call the other store?? I want this drive!!!!!

JustForFun, My $20 rebate shows an offer date of: 01/06/2002 to 01/12/02. The rebate offer # is 23215. Ask for that rebate number.

FlippyBoy, The 30 day deal is listed on the little folder they put your receipt in. Most of the time they are sitting on the check out counter. It says " you find the competition offering a lower price, we will refund the difference".

I got both the $50 and $20 rebates printed out at the cash register.
Both had rebates good for purchases 1/6/2002 to 1/12/2002.
I would have scanned the rebate form had I known anyone needed it.
I already sent it in.

Sorry,
Mark

My $20.00 rebate slip shows good from 1/06/2002 to 1/12/2002. Postmarked by 2/12/02.

🙂

I just looked at the specificatoins posted earlier (good post) about that new super drive to be introduced by TDK and it eases my blues about not getting in on this deal, at least not paying $59 for it--free would have been nice, of course. A 2GB drive that can utilize CDRs is something to anticipate.

JustForFun,
On the bottom of my $20 rebate is a BB Rebate Center phone# 1-800-849-0444. Call them and ask for the rebate form to be sent to you. It is rebate #23215. Just tell them your three year old ate it.

Everyone seem to have forgotten that Circuit City is still selling (Sat. is the last day) the TDK 24X for $59.97 after a $50 and $20 rebate too.You can go to their web site and check your local stores to see if they have it in stock, then order it for in-store pick up.that how I got mine, but I took a copy of a BB receipt someone emailed me, to have CC PM BB when I picked up the drive and walked out with a free TDK 24X CD-RW.

Also there is a another thread here : Link to 24/10/40 LITE-ON or MITSUMI from Staples for ~$31 after PM and MIR for a hot deal on a 24X drive.
And the posts for next week's hot CD-RW deal should start showing up thu. and Fri.
This BB deal isn't the only hot CD-RW deal going down.

Hey guys!

Thanks A bunch for the rebate information!! This will definately be a help. I can't say why my BB is NOT producing this rebate, but I will definately ask tomorrow now that I have this info. Much appreciated. 🙂

As far a CC goes, my CC is OOS...ever since SUNDAY! I have checked every day and they have NONE. I also asked if they would be getting anymore in and they said they weren't sure and ccould NOT guarante me the price from there ad or give a rain check. I haven't tried a PM with someone else's reciept at CC for this reason.

Maybe if they get some more in, I may. Based on my experience with the stores in my town so far, it doesn't look promising.

Exactly how do you convice BB or CC to PM a receipt from another town or state entirely? What do you say?? Do you do this at the CS desk or at the register or what?

Any tips would be appreciated.

And thanks again for the info. Curious how this $20 rebate doesn't show up on their website tho. I will be asking MY BB about this if it doesn't print out.

JFF😀🙂

I picked this up today. It rang up at $129 with a $50 rebate and a $20 rebate. I am going to see if I can get the price down to $79.99 tomorrow with a copy of the receipt. Still, $59 for a TDK 24x burner is a great deal.

Thanks to all for giving me the heads up on this.

After failing to price adjust the drive I got from CC on Saturday (scanned tags, receipts didn't work), and failing at price matching at CompUSA last night, the last resort was BB itself tonight. I went in armed with a scanned tag, 2 scanned receipts, and the price match BB form someone posted today. I knew this specific BB had a bunch of the drives in stock. I grabbed one of the drives and headed to the customer service/return counter. Asked for a price match, given the saleswoman the tag and offered to produce the other receipts. No hassles at all. She initially said she just needed to get approval, but decided to ring it up regardless. Rings up $129, adjusted to $59.97. Kid working next to her mentions that slower drives cost more than this TDK one. 🙂

Woman then photocopies my tag and then my receipt (probably for the PM paperwork). Then as she's photocopying, the $20 and $50 rebates spit out of the register. How cool is that? She sees the rebates and offers a, "Ok, looks like you get this for free!". And with a smile, she sends me off on my way.

My BB seems to be very generous with their PM policy. If they were planning to not to PM me, I was going to let them know I would buy it, come back and use their PM policy. Though I was wondering if this is considered a "special" since those are excluded from PM.

Good luck to all...

Sup guys. Went to the El Cajon store and PMed with Fry's $109 deal and everything went smoothly. Looks like it's gonna cost me $39.99 after all rebates. This will definitely be good enough for me. Unless by some magical way I can get it for $79.99 or $59.99 off the bat, I'd do it. Good Luck guys.

RipperX2k

i was at el cajon store 4 hours ago but was denied of pm to fry's because they knew it's sold out at fry's. do you remember who did the pm? thanks.

edit: or better yet if by any chance you can scan the pm receipt? i would love to see how they explain their double-standard on pm. my email is netbuyer1@aol.com

Greets,

I tried to PM with the receipt that I posted, but the manager at the store said that "it was filled out incorrectly since the buyer didn't fill out the info or sign it" and didn't honor it. He was being such an @sshole and wouldn't even give me the store number so I could contact bestbuy corp and explain that the prices should be nationwide. (This was a bluff, I am too lazy to file any kind of complaint.) I didn't even want the mail in rebates and told him he could have them, just that I wanted that price without rebates. Still no go. He said the lowest price in his system for all stores from receipts was 129.99, and that drive was never lower and that it can't be cheaper than that.

Went with a friend to a BB in long island (the one before was in queens) and this lady price matched no problem. I asked her if I could get another one, and she said yes. Great 2 at $59... my friend even went back after we left the store with another one of the receipts in my pocket from anandtech and got one. We went to the same register!!!

My friend asked, "why do you need 2 of the drives". I told him to drive me back to the queens one and I would explain. At the BB, I asked to return one unopened drive, and the lady asks if I have receipt... no.... I tell her, just to do a chargeback on my credit card, which I knew she didn't know how to do. So after about 2 minutes of telling her I don't know where my receipt was, she told me she could give me a store credit on a giftcard... I said, "fine"... then she remembers the rebates, checks the UPC, and says, okay, I know you can't get the $50 rebate since the UPC is still here, but if you don't have receipts then I will have to deduct $20 from the price since you can mail away and get that rebate just with the receipt. I said, "fine".... so I get a gift card for $120.71 (drive + tax - $20).... I pass by the salesperson that was not nice to me, and said, thanks for all your help... (being a smart@ss).

SO, for all of you skipping down to the bottom, BB is basically paying me $90 (120 gc - 60 (paid for orig drive that I returned)+ 20 rebate + 10 rebate (that 10 profit for me after the 59 drive - 70 rebates) from drive I kept) for all that hassle they caused me. All could have been prevented if I just got the damned store number.

(this isn't fraud because as per the store manager, "the lowest price in his system for all stores from receipts was 129.99, and that drive was never lower and that it can't be cheaper than that") so if it can't be cheaper than that, then apparently it wasn't, and according to his logic, then bb couldn't have lost all the money because of me. Simple logic from 1st year computer science course.
