Burning freeze.

I am having problems with a replacement 16/12/40 drive from a Lite-on RMA.
XP's Hardware manager id's it as a "CyberDrv CW038D CD-R/RW" and I use PNY 700MB 16x media at 16x.

The problem is when I finish fill up about 700 mb (to yellow bar) on a cd-r in Nero 5.5.8.2 oem it asks me if I want to finalize it. When I say yes, if starts filling up the bottom bar and then freezes just before the buffer fills up. The light is still flashing on the drive, but it stays on the same file until I get scared enough to cancel the job.

When I try to reburn the exact same window, after aborting and throwing away the cd, it works perfectly. Where do I start troubleshooting? Google shows nothing. Should I start looking at different media, lower speed, mess with the cabling, or blame XP or Nero?

If I let it continue, will it kill the drive?

Thanks

I used Nero and it acts flaky on my win XP rig too. I just went out a bought Roxio's CD-Creator 5 for $10 and now it's workd great!

Hey btw it shouldn't kill the drive. I think Nero has an auto speed option try using it! i've used my 16x cd's @ 40x before... hehe 🙂 Slower burn speeds might help. Sounds like nero isn't very good with XP tho
