Burning dvd to hard drive

Hi, I was wondering how to burn my dvd's to my hard disk. I am wanting to burn my put my dvd's on my laptop so I can watch them at work, Do I need to buy any software or a dvd burner to do this? If anyone knows how, any advice would be helpfull, thanks.

Go on Kazaa and do a search for an app called Smart Ripper. It will do exactly what you are talking about. However, ripping an entire DVD takes hours and the file sizes are huge in the 5-9 GB range. You might be better off converting them to DivX after you rip the DVD.

Also the proper term for extraction is "ripping." Burning only applies to creating CD-R/W and DVD-x discs (because the laser "burns" a new pattern into the dye layer).

Ok, so I am ripping them with dvd decrypter with no problems but yeah they are huge, 5 gigs and up, so now I want to convert to divx, any advice about this?
