Burning CDs

Whenever I try to burn CDs, nothing works. My computer keeps saying that there is no medium inserted (or the drive isn't ready), even though I keep putting in a blank CD. Can anyone help me out here?

Here are the critical specs:

Program Used: Nero Burning Rom 5.5
Medium Used: Memorex CD-Rs (100 Pack)
CD-RW Drive Used: CenDyne 24x10x40x CD-RW Drive
OS: Windows XP

My CD-RW Drive will pick up other CDs (like games, music, etc.), just to let you know.

I have normal CD-Rs. They are:

-700 MB
-80 Minutes
-48x Multi Speed

My CD-RW drive also has two lights. A green one signifies that a CD is being read. A red one signifies that something is being burned. Whenever I put a CD in, the green light comes on, but after a few seconds, it goes out. That's it. Windows recognizes that a CD was popped in, but it fails to recognize that the CD is a CD-R.

Well, on Nero Burning Rom, there is a bar that shows how many minutes/space you have on the CD left. Every time you drag and drop (or remove) a file from the CD, the bar changes.

That isn't the problem however...it's something else that's making it do this.

Yeah I used to have the same problem on an older CD burner I had. Sometimes it just wouldn't recognize a blank disk was inserted, so what I usually did was reboot the computer (or shutdown) with the blank cd still in the drive and then windows and Nero would finally see it.

It's really a problem with the cheap drives I think.
