Burning CDs question

I was given 2 files to burn onto one CD. One of them is a .bin file, and its big. The other is a .cue file, and its all of 74 bytes. How do I burn this to CD?

Note: Yes, I am technically copying a CD that I could buy, but its from my school, and my prof told me that I can download it and use it legally. Its the CD I need so that I can run RESOLVE/C++ (my school's very own language that is used absolutely no where else, yet they spend a full year teaching it to us

) on my machine at my house, rather than having to make an X-window connection (so I can do school stuff without needing a fast internet connection). There are two options: $5 for it on CD, or I can d/l it and burn it for free (legally). Hmmm... $5 = 12 pack of beer (albeit cheap beer). I think I'll burn it.

i usually use cdrwin to burn bin files. with cdrwin, u load the cue file (which is sorta an index file). the cue file will tell cdrwin to burn the bin file. i am not sure exactly how nero will handle bin files tho. i could be wrong, but i seem to recall using winiso to extract the contents from the bin file and just burning with nero.

it's a cue for the bin file... it cues it up...

i use Nero, i go to burn image file, and select all files, then double click on the cue. the cue file has to be the exact same file name minus the file extension, as the bin. its not too hard... lots of CD's come in this format nowdays...

Thanks. When you say "burn image file", you mean select it to burn as an ISO, right?

Try FireBurner for simple results. The CDRWin interface is really a load of crap.

Yeah, but RESOLVE pisses me off pretty frequently. I like C++ much more, even though they are almost interchangable from a keyword perspective. Its just the little things...

OK, now that I have the file... that doesnt seem to be working. Can I get a step by step (actually, a command by comand)? I'm pretty sleep deprived.

On reflection, I think I'm going to nap. However, dont let that stop you from giving me the command by command instructions 😉

You can burn it with Fireburner.

I believe the program that generates .bin/.cue files is CDRWin. But as some have mentioned, the interface sucks. Discjuggler will also burn .bin files (don't need the .cue) as well. Discjuggler / CDRWin / Fireburner all should work fine.

To burn it in Nero:

Prepare the cue file by opening it in notepad. Make sure that where it has the name of the bin file, that it also has the correct path to the file on your system. To make it easy, I usually dump them into my root dir and just add the C:\ before the bin name.

1. Close the wizard that opens by default
2. Go to File/Burn Image
3. Browse to where the bin/cue are.
4. Change the file type you are looking for from .nrg (or whatever it is for Nero, I'm at work, so I can't check at the moment) to "all files."
5. Choose to open the cue file.
6. Set your burn speed, etc.
7. Burn.
