Burning blanks in Windows XP

Both the native app and Nero (the latest) give me no error messages, yet the CD is always tagged as blank and is totally unreadable. I can even burn to it a second time, with no error messages. Drive worked fine under Windows ME.

On most media I can visually see that the CD was written to.

The XP load was a fresh (formatted) load. The drive is a Yamaha CRW8824S burner. All SCSI system, XP Pro (fuilly patched including the CD-RW patch). I've tried multiple CD-R medias and files to be burned.

I'm stumped.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Spent several hours last night installing several ASPI layers ( the best was from Adaptec which can be gotten here ). I've learned that Windows 2000 & XP do have an ASPI layer and one must be loaded for a lot of CD-ROM burner software to work.

My collection of coasters groweth. Still looking for an answer...

:disgust:

Yup; already tried that. Even on another system (Windows 98SE) with the same results.

I'm begining to think the drive has toasted. 🙁
