Burning 2 CDs simultaneously

It seems when I use Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.5 or Nero, I can't burn 2 CDs at the same time even though I have 2 drives. While 1 CD is burning, I try to open up Nero again, but it is slow and unresponsive even though my CPU usage is only ~10% max. So, how do I accomplish this?

are you trying to burn the same thing simultaneously on both burners or are you trying to burn two seperate file(s) on each burner

I think...your PC's cd writing resources are dedicated to one particular program-so although both can be open at the same time, theoretically burning 2 cds simultaneously is not possible.
Thats my guess, I also wanna know.

Hmmm, that could be the problem. Maybe if I put each burner on it's own channel or even put a PCI IDE controller in, the problem might be solved.

You just need a different program. Roxio is meant for ease of use not a lot of features. Burning 2 cds at the same time is definitely possible. Nero can do it and other programs like alcohol 120% could probably do it. Be forewarned though - these applications aren't as easy to use as Roxio.

No, that's not the problem. I tried it with Nero and it doesn't work. I start to burn 1 CD with Nero and then try to launch another instance of it and it just hangs. I'd also rather not use Alcohol 120% for music CDs.

You have both writers on a single IDE channel?

That is definitely your problem.

The cheap $10 PCI controller is a good idea. I always throw the opticals on that and leave the hard disks on the motherboard.

I split the burners to be the master of both the primary and secondary channels. I'll burn some stuff tomorrow or something and see how it goes. I have a SATA drive so no IDE channels taken up there.

You don't do it by opening up 2 instances. You use one instance with multiple projects to burn multiple discs.

It is better with external burners - preferably Firewire. I burn three at a time on my LAN with three different burners on the network.

BS. I use Roxio 6 to burn 4 of the same CD at once, from a CD-ROM. All the drives in question are SCSI, though.

OP, what you need are drives on separate channels for starters. Helps if the sources are too. Or you can spend the money on Plextor SCSI drives like me :)

I used Nero 6 to burn 2 CD's at once with both drives on the same channel (one master, one slave, IDE) and it worked fine for both discs. HDD was PATA on primary IDE channel, different data to the discs.

Ok, putting the burners on seperate channels worked well.

What most of you guys are doing is burning the SAME thing on all your burners. I'm looking to burn DIFFERENT playlists at a time. Anyways, I've found my answer.
