Burner vs Ram

here is my dilema. I have found myself with a few extra bucks, so do i add another 256mb SDRAM to my other 256mb (i am presently running win98, but plan to move into win2k soon)and pocket the leftover change OR do i replace my POS HP 4/2/24 burner with a plextor 12/8/32. i should mention that i do like to multi-task but as of now i am unable to while burning a cd, and i am aware of BURN proof tech, which would be a valued asset to multi-tasking....just wondering what you guys would do or recommend based on performance boosts by doubling my ram to 512 or tripling my burning speed??

I would go for the burner. Since w2k runs comfortable with 256mb already which you have. You did mentioned that you tend to do multi-tasking a lot which you are unable to do with your current burner without burn-proof. Adding that new Plextor would solve your problem.

The Plextor 12x10x32 is the one with burnproof, not the 12x8x32. I would go for the burner too, though it's costs like 100 bucks more than the ram right? =)

Before Burner, Before RAM... Win2000!
Then Burner...
If you say you multi-task, you should be running 2K, being 9x is so poor at it (memory management)

yeah, i meant 12/10/32, sorry. And i am installing windows 2000 soon. The cheapest i can find the burner (in canada) is $359 retail, so it is about $170 more than the ram, but that doesnt matter, i just want to get what will benefit my system more, and i think i will go with the burner

I multitask fine with my 8x8 yamaha without burnproof. It just has a big buffer (if you want a cheaper alternative to the plextor I mean)

But yeah in your shoes I'd get the burner over the RAM.

thanks guys, you all helped me pick out akot of hardware for myself, so i figured to throw this one to you too. Burner it is.
