Burner Question

I am looking at 2 burners. Both at 4x4x32. Both are the same price ($199 CDN). One is Pacific Digital, one is TEAC. Is one better than the other?

I knew nothing about burners a couple of years ago, and I got on a burner newsgroup. Asked around, and most peoples opinions were either Plextor, or Teac. I have a scsi set-up, and use a Teac cdr58s burner, and a 532s reader, and have NEVER had a coaster in over a year of use( maybe 250-300 discs) that was not my direct fault.

$199 CDN? Is that too much? That works out to about $132 US. If it is, I do live in a smaller city though (approx 40K people) and there are only a couple of stores here and they are not very competitive. These are at Costco.

I thought that it was a pretty decent price though. Is it out of line?

Of those choices I would pick Teac. Pacific Digital=Mitsumi. I REALLY don't like Mitsumi drives.

No that's a fine price. I couldn't find any 4/4/32 drives but 8/4/32 drives go for around 260'ish when I looked around today (CDN).

That's a good price...Awhile ago I paid $199 US for my Teac 4x4x32...I love it. Yeah, get the TEAC!

I had problems with a Teac CD-Rom a long time ago, so I'm very wary of the company, but I think that was an isolated problem. Pacific Digital I've never even heard of, so Teac is probably your best bet. Ricoh drives tend to be pretty good, I've got an MP7060A (6x4x24) and it works great. I've never had a coaster that wasn't my fault or an operating system problem. If those two are your only choices, then Teac is the way to go.

i like TEAC. i had an 8x24 and i did over 1000 burns and it works great. never once did i have a problem.
