Burner Probs. burner will just stop burning 10 sec into burn

Ok i have a TDK 8x4x32 drive.. teh first veloCD burner... and ever since i reformatted this drive produces only coasters..

it'll start burning and it'll burn for maybe 10 seconds then just stop... NERO says "lead in"

also last night i tried putting it on track at once and it burned a test run fine.. then as soon as it tried to really burn it.. it just stopped burning a little ways into it...

when it stops burning the cd rom dies.. like i cant open the cd tray and its not viewable in windows.. until i restart my pc...

i installed aspi drivers but didnt help. thx

I had a similar problem with a Plextor 12 speed on Windows XP, and spent two hours with Microsoft Tech Support on the phone without solving the problem. Found out myself it was caused by XP setting DMA mode on the writer by default (the drive is only rated at PIO Mode 4). Set the writer to PIO Mode Only, and all problems went away, with no loss of CD burning performance.

Is there any updated firmware for the burner? If so, try to install it. It COULD work, ya never know.
