Burner Buffer Level

I used to just have my dvd burner as my only cd drive but recently I added a dvd-rom. The problem is that now when I go to burn my buffer level goes from 99% to 0% then jumps back up and just keeps going up and down. This makes the burn time take a lot longer than usual. D

Any ideas guys?
 
They're on the same cable but I was just trying to burn some files off of my hard drive and this happened. Do you think it could be the cable itself?
 
Maybe but I doubt it...


Set the jumpers to master and Slave if they are on Cable select or maybe even Visa versa

Unhook the DVD player and see if the problem duplicates
 
make sure that when you are burning anything that the other optical drive on the same channel is not being used for anything. One time I put a disk in my dvd because I forgot I was burning something and it killed my buffer.

I know it won't because I've been through this problem before. I had another drive hooked up while the burner was there and the buffer issues happened. It says that both cd drives are running DMA mode 2.
