Sigh! This is just a bad idea IMO. A very bad idea. First Everybody Draw Mohammed Day and now this. What are these kinds of retarted, in-your-face campaigns supposed to accomplish? They sure as hell don't show the right to freedom of speech in a good light. I think a few more campaigns like this and then freedom of speech will become synonymous with and defined by "the freedom to insult everyone and everything you disagree with". Is this the kind of attitude freedom of speech is supposed to foster in society?

And since when is "We live in America!" supposed to be a justification for all retarded acts?

Whatever happened to:

See that none render evil for evil to any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. (1 Thessalonians 5:15)
??

Sure the terrorists don't believe in it but what makes us any different if we act the same?

SANCHEZ: Do you know how many Muslims there are in the world? JONES: I think there are 1.5 billion.
SANCHEZ: Yeah. I ask you that because that’s a very big number. Why would you want to do this to 1.5 billion people by burning their most sacred book? That’s crazy.
JONES: Well, for one thing, to us, the book is not sacred.
SANCHEZ: But it is to them, it’s sacred to them. [...]
JONES: What we’re also doing by the burning of the Quran on 9/11 is we’re saying stop. Stop to Islam. Stop to Islamic law. Stop to brutality. We have nothing against Muslims, they are welcome in our country. [...]
SANCHEZ: How would you feel if a Muslim said to you, what you just said to them? I have no problem with you Mr. Christian, you’re welcome in my country, but I’m burning your Bible.
JONES: I would not like it. But it’s our right. We live in America!
Story

"We have nothing against Muslims" but we'll burn their most sacred book in their faces and "they are welcome in our country"!

Does anyone else see the idiocy of this statement?

I'd love to burn a Quran, but that would require me buying one, and I wouldn't waste the money.

I don't disagree with Muslims choice to be Muslim. I disagree with them trying to force the beliefs onto me ("don't draw muhammad!" etc.). I posted this in another thread:

No one anywhere, of any race, of any gender, of any upbringing should give a shit what other people think.

What a stupid way to teach tolerance. "Hey, your culture should respect plurality of thought, religion, and expression! To demonstrate how great all that stuff is, I'm going to spit in your face!"

What if the Muslim world held an "American Flag Burning Day" to celebrate freedom of expression? I think we'd be pissed.

The message this sends is brutal and threatening, not tolerant and understanding.

When is burn the Bible day?

What if the Muslim bodies in the country organize a "Burn Bible Day" as a knee-jerk reaction? Mission accomplished?

Exactly!
It's just Muslim haters who are trying to promote an "acceptable" way to denigrate Muslims.

There's like 1.5 billion Muslims in the world. Most of them don't condone terrorism. Many of them like America. Stuff like this is just stupid and wrong.

Can we just burn all three holy books at the same time, in the same fire?

That'll learn 'em. I dunno what, but oh boy will it ever!

But seriously... I want to.

I don't get this burning thing. Why use fire? How about drown a Quran day? Or chop a Quran with an axe day?

I agree. I have no problem with burning religious texts of any kind. Bible, Koran, Torah, A.C. Clarke...whatever...just don't expect me to pay for it. Not worth the expense IMO.

If Christians were killing people for burning the Bible or drawing Jesus then I would say "fuck 'em" and draw Jesus on a Bible and burn it... but they aren't.

This is the way for the others to show that they can do what they want and they aren't afraid of some stupid religious views and that they aren't afraid to draw Mohammed or burn the sacred Quran.

If someone told me "You can't drive a red car. It is against my religion and if you drive a red car, I will kill you" then I would implore everyone to buy a red car to show these idiots that it is THEIR RELIGION and THEIR VIEWS and I can do whatever the fuck I want.

Maybe in my religion I am supposed to draw other religious prophets and burn their holy scriptures...

No it's NOT the way. At least not for people who value common-sense, human decency and respect for others.

Wow maybe you should travel to the mideast and let them know of this peaceful way of communicating? I'm sure the Taliban would love to meet with you and discuss human decency, common sense, and respect for others.
