BK must be losing money on the sale of these.

Who knows... with a ready-made game engine, developing a simple game should be relatively inexpensive. If they've sold 2 million at $4 apiece, that's $8 million. I doubt they've spent that on development, manufacturing and distribution. You can't really count the promotional cost (TV ads) since the games ARE a promotion to get people in the store. Plus they now have 2 million games out there that will remind people to eat at Burger King. 😉 They aren't a game company, the point isn't to make money off the games, so even if they lost money it's just a promotional expense like any other.

You can also take into account the meal that is purchased when you buy the games. And, as you pointed out, they are really just an advertising expensive to begin with. Except in this case you are getting the consumer to actually buy the ads. Pretty sweet deal for BK.

Very true, it's all promotion and they might not have been aiming for profit in the first place.

Apparently BK will be in Japan next year. We need to see them become as big as the golden arches.

Tried to get them at my local BK but they were all out. Bought two sets on eBay, one for me and one for my brother. 🙂

The Burger King up the road is selling them 3 for $10.99 now. I picked up the Pocketbike Racer on a whim during lunch one day but haven't tried it out.
My local BK has the complete set for $9.99. They're not great games, but for the price they're amusing distractions. My daughter and I had fun with Big Bumpin. She beat me every game though, I'm starting to feel old.

HAH! Got you both beat! The BK 2 miles from me is selling them for $2.99 each or $8 for all three. My wife bought them as stocking stuffers after hearing a friend of mine rave for 5 minutes on how fun they were. 😛

Talk about a valid price point. When most 360 games cost in upwards of $40, this was a GREAT move by MS/BK to sell ALOT of games. I am sure lots of people bought them just to increase their game count. At $4 (or less) a pop, why not?

We picked up the Big Bumpin one for our 8 year old. He loves it. Wish I'd thought to buy the other two as stocking stuffers though.

One in three BK franchises are losing money. I like BK and hope this promotion helps them.

at $4 a pop, I don't really find this surprising.

I bought one so far... Planning on getting the other 2... believe me If they were 20 dollars Id buy it anyway... they are so goofy ...

whoever thought this one up deserves a mundo raise.

This is nothing new...video games as marketing tools have been around since the days of the Atari 2600. Maybe 10? years back back (when Doom had been out for a couple years) Chex cereal had a CD-Rom game inside the box based on the Doom engine. It was called Chex Quest, heh. I still have a copy. I even have an old "Kool-Aid Man" 2600 cart 😛

This was an excellent move on BKs part. I see other fast food places following suit in the near future.

Pay for the development team, ONE TIME PAY, a paycheck for working long hours?

Pay to establish a contract, ONE TIME PAY, with interest perhaps?

Shipping and receiving? Easily done, very cheap.

How much money does a DVD cost to the industry? Pennies?
How much money does a DVD case cost to the industry? Pennies?

Marketting strategy? Let's see... TV advertisements, display boards, Internet media, magazines, ... hella lotta money.

And to sell the product? $4x2,000,000 sales=$8,000,000

1 million dollars on advertising, hundreds of thousands of dollars to pay the employees. I'm sure the left over can account for itself including the sales of Kid's Meals and other junk food that was sold in the process.

Loss of money, I don't think so.

edit: McDonald's doesn't catch on? Mc'D's customers are the ones being drawn away.
Taco Bell, they tried PC games, but how many kids know how to work computers compared to the more simplified Xbox/360 game system? Personally, Burger King is making progress in their target market projects.

exactly. I would buy them if i had an xbox 360. they look pretty amusing and considering how cheap they are it's not that much of a loss if they aren't very good.

All the new and old King commercials are CRAP and FREAKY............ Meat and Cheese, Meat and Cheese, Meat and Cheese. Up yours Buddy! I like my whopper! stop freaking me out or I'll stop eating at Burger King! **LMAO**
It's like a huge walking "PUPPET" with a plastic head!

I cannot see any kids today that would'nt be afraid of this dipshi*!

poket bike racer is fun! i want to try the other 2 but my friend has not bought them yet
i think the commecial for sneek king is hilarious especially when he is holding the burger doing a weird dance and point at it in a showing way

This is the most creative and ingenius marketting campaign I can recall in many years. I hope it starts a fun trend. I'm so sick of video games costing $60+. I was hoping serious sam and some of the EA sports games would set a trend, but they didn't. Only games like half life 2 are worth $60. Most games, even the well-reviewed ones, aren't worth even $30 in my opinion.

Chex Quest

i remember playing that.

I highly doubt these games were expensive to develop. The company that made them also makes Fusion Frenzy (XBOX Party game) and will release Fusion Frenzy 2 for the XBOX 360 soon. Literally, Big Bumpin' = Fusion Frenzy (for XBOX) or Fusion Frenzy 2 (for XBOX 360) - some of the games + Burger King stuff. Pocket Bike Racer could've been developed using the same engine just changing the camera around.

Cheap fun seems to be the way to go this Christmas.
