Time for a new thread since the old one will soon vanish.
directron has burbie in stock
These barebones used to be barbie computers.
Silver Micro ATX Case and 150w Power supply by Enlight
Intel Brand BP810 Motherboard
Supports Socket 370 Celeron Processors 300-533 Mhz
Bus 66bus 128k
Supports SDRAM 32 MB up to 256 MB 168-pin DIMM
Onboard: AGP Video 4 MB+(shared sdram)
AD1881 Sound onboard (line in and out)
56K Motorolla Data/Fax Modem onboard
4 USB Ports <----(wow!!) no PCI slots only 1 DIMM Memory Slot
1 Serial Port 1 IDE Port
Includes 40X CDROM, 1.44 Floppy Drive, Power Cord, Screws, and Cables
Software: CDROM Drivers (1 per unit)
**System Drivers and complete Motherboard Manual (online Download)
Case/Power by Enlight, Motherboard by Intel, Floppy by Mitsumi, CD-ROM by Lite-On.
Hard Drive, Memory & CPU are not included
Case is de-branded and shows signs of sanding

I just ordered my second one--my 10 year old loves it and his 7 year old sister is going to get one of her own. Main drawback is that it has no pci slots and you need a usb keyboard. The price just dropped to $44 and UPS ground to me in maryland is less than $12. There are plenty of other dealers out there that are selling these with and without cpus, memory, etc so let us know about better and worse deals, etc. Drivers on Intels website are better than packages2you can provide.

$44 isn't bad for an enlight case & power supply along with cd-rom, 1.44 floppy drive and an intel motherboard.

EDIT 12/11/2001: Price has gone up to $47 + shipping
EDIT 12/12/2001: Price has gone up to $48.10 + shipping $44 price still available for quantity (4+) purchases
EDIT 12/17/2001: Now out of stock
EDIT 12/27/2001: Now back in stock $48.10 + shipping or $46 price for quantity (1+) purchases
EDIT 2/13/2002: Now out of stock again
EDIT 4/22/2002: Directron has Burbie for $44.99 plus shipping

It can be a joke depending on your perspective. I wouldn't probably buy anything under 1 ghz from my point of view. But if someone needs a very cheap system this can serve that purpose.

Some of us have used the MSI 6312 motherboard to upgrade this barbie. Here's a link to an auction I won microstar board.
Some mods to the backplate are required. This gives you the option of more memory, faster processors and front-side bus, pci slots, etc. Still a great deal as is though.

So did the factory reject motherboard work? I'm just curious since I see alot of stuff listed like this (untested and what not) on eb@y.

gateway factory reject status was because one of the three usb ports was not functional. Otherwise board fine -- still have 2 USB on board and connectors for 2 more usb on motherboard.

jonnyguru put a Shuttle AK11 (?) motherboard in his. He had problems ordering a second barbie from a different vendor--the tale of which is detailed in the OT forum jonnyguru's woes

and while we're at it, why don't we see liquidations of the hot wheels barebones???

I organized a group buy for a bunch of these machines from package2you. As a part of this, I located some cheep accessories:

Tiger Direct
Xircom Portstation Starter Kit (Parallel, 2xPS2, 4xUSB) (no longer available)
Xircom USB to Ethernet Adapter $10 (PGENET10)
Xircom USB to SCSI Adapter $14 (PGSCSI)

Office Max B&M
Tech Solutions USB Keyboard $5 (In the Clearance Rack)

Add these to the hard disk and memory deals that change weekly, and the system can be built up for about $100.

As posted in the last (now expired) thread, the motherboard's manual is here.

I have also amassed most of the drivers for this machine:
Base Motherboard set
Hardware Random Number Generator Driver (aka Security Driver)
Ultra ATA Disk Driver
Win9x Graphics Driver
Win2k Graphics Driver
Win9x Sound Driver
Win2k Sound Driver
Motorola Software Modem (Win9x and Win2k)

Hope this summary helps someone...

I also bought one of these based on the original post and my daughter is really happy with it. I put a 500Mhz Celeron with 128Mb of ram and it runs really good. It's fairly fast, boots up quick and is quiet. The units are brand new just have the sanding on the finish to take the Barbie stuff off of them.

sparc: I've used the DSB-650 (that I got from CC a few montsh back for free :^) on this under Win 98 with no problems. No idea on how well it works under Linux, but I do see it in the list of USB ethernet devices...

What is the fastest celeron processor that the microstar MSI 6312 board will accept? Does it work with the coppermine processors or only the ones with a 66 Mhz FSB?

Thanks for the compilation, sadlerjon.
Has anyone started a web-page to consolidate info related to the Burbie deal, since threads disappear from the forums after 45 days? I purchased two from package2u but have yet to do more than take the case off of one.

Took me a few minutes to figure out the trick is in the screws in the pink handle! ;) But there are only so many screws so I knew I would get it eventually! :)
