There's a big difference. Ever see Jeff Foxworty and his ever-famous "You might be a Redneck"? Do you think you'll ever see "You might be a N*****"? or "You might be a Jew"? Thought not. It's just plain facts as well my man, you want to talk about how there's so much money in the south - fine, I'm not doubting you. But I read somewhere that a whole 10% of the US's population lives in trailer parks. Where do you think the majority of that %10 lives? I'd be willing to bet they're centralized in the south. Nothing wrong with that - just different lifestyles, plain and simple. But it's a dead fact that the common kind of lifestyle down there is much much different than it is in most other places.

Rio - I'm not ignorant or discriminitory at all. I'm white and I hang out with nothing but minorities, it's who I blend with, I'm the most non-racial person I know. Whether what thedarkwolf posted is true or not - it was still funny. It's the same if blonde jokes were posted - I'm sure that the ratio of dumb blondes is the same as the ratio of dumb brunettes - but they're still funny. I'm close-minded because I found the jokes funny? I'd like to know where I made fun of anyone in the south - or where I said it's ok to generalize everyone in the south as a Redneck. Please tell me, because you seem to think I did somewhere.

Didnt say you did, I said the city of Boston is a slum in its entirity, and I have had the misfortune of having to spend extended periods of time there, so I am not just guessing on this. The only point I am trying to make to you here, is that the term redneck is deragatory to everyone in the south. Much the same as other racial slurs. So quit using it and acting like you did nothing wrong.

I'm from the south (lived here in Georgia 13 of my 22 years + 7 more if you consider Maryland south with the Mason-Dixon line) and I found the jokes funny. That's what they were -- jokes. You know, funny... Hahah.. Lighten up folks.

The label &quot;redneck&quot; can be applied to certain people IMO, but I'd never be dumb enough to say that everyone in the south is a redneck. *That's* ignorance, something I don't believe I displayed. Using it to describe an entire population is discriminatory, I agree. But the state of being a redneck or a hick does exist. Did I ever imply this was bad? No - so why is it such an awful thing in your eyes? And I hardly think the term is racial, seeing as how southerners are just as American as anyone else who was born here... Funny how you managed to slip that one in there.

Let me give a small example here. Let's take the term &quot;bum&quot; (as in homeless). Someone can be homeless, and labeled a bum. Now let's say I took that term and applied it to an entire group, lets say I said everyone who lives in a trailer park is a bum even when that's not true. See the difference here? I never made a generalization.

It can't be a generalization unless it's applied to a group of people. I reiterate: I never said everyone in the south lived the &quot;redneck&quot; lifestyle. But there are people out there that can be classified as a redneck, plain and simple. There's nothing wrong with it - it's just the same as if I labeled someone rich or middle class.

I think most of you guys are younger than me. I am 33 by the way . But, you have to lighten up. This thread has went astray again. There are stereo types about every race and color and while most are not true they are funny. When something is said in fun in should be taken in fun. You guys are going to look and grow &quot;old&quot; quick if you don't learn to laugh. Let me give you some advice. If you really want to cross the racial lines learn to laugh. Now suppose I a got offended when something is kinda funky people call it ghetto. Man me and my wife would never make it without laughing at racial things. We're coming up on 5 years and we're happy. Unixfreak hit the nail on the head. It's not about being offended or trying to make everyone speak politically correct. It's the contradiction of it that makes it so ridiculous.

And it's even more ridiculous that some of these people still don't get it, even after you point it out.

Oh well, I guess everyone needs scapegoats.
