Nice cheap system...$199.99

If you don't need the latest quad core, this system is priced right.

3.46ghz cel (will take C2D E4x00, see below)
512MB (swap out for this)
DVD-RW

No, no monitor you greedy bastards 🙂

THANKS to Trashman for the research:

Supports the following processors:
Core 2 Duo E4x00 with Dual Core technologiy (Conroe core)
Pentium D 9xx Dual Core technology (Presler core)
Pentium 4 6x1 series (Cedar Mill core)
Celeron D 3xx series (Cedar Mill core)
Celeron D 3xx series (Prescott core)

I'm not sure I'd be that hard on it.

At least it has a PCIe x16 slot, meaning that with another stick of RAM and a $40 graphics card this machine would more than hold its own.

Thanks.

I despise Compaq, but I bought 3 anyway.

Why? Because I needed 2 new machines for menial tasks. Not workhorses, just something to run 24/7.

I always build myself but I can't even start to buy the parts for $200

Example from NewEgg of same machine sells for $399 ($350 AR)

Parts from NewEgg to build an almost identical unit with software shows at $506.40

Thanks to the OP.

if only you could flash the bios and OC a bit, that would be amazing, nothing too extravagant, but like 250 FSB or something (x4 obviously) then id be all over it 🙂

In for one. Can't pass it up at this price. Anyone know if it has just one stick of RAM in it? Would be great to get it up to 1 GB by tossing in a 512 mb stick.

i got one yesterday - $213 w/ in store pick up.

haven't unboxed it yet, but i'm gonna toss a 8400 or 8500 on here and a cheap 2x1gb kit of ram plus the xbox360 hd-dvd player and replace my HTPC (aging 9600 vanilla, 2.8ghz p4, 2x512 pc3200)

I wonder if you replace the CPU if it would disable Vista? One of my first learning experiences about Microsoft antipiracy was on a Compaq PC when I replaced the motherboard, it disabled the Windows XP. Had to buy a new XP to load.
