Well today I received my Asus P4B533 board and swiftech MCX4000. So Im getting all excited thought Id check in on tcwo to see if they still had the P4 2.66ghz at 295.00. Well they dont, its at 394.00 now. Who knows, maybe it was a pricing error all along and thats what they would have charged anyways.

So question is, when is the next price cut? Or anyone know of any hotdeals on one right now? I can hold out for a while I guess, otherwise if its not for a long time Im just gonna take the plunge and get it. For now I can pick up my Corsair XMS 400mhz ddr.

Thanks!

Maybe Nov... as a 3ghz PIV will be released for the Holiday season or at least I think.

Why not get a 2.4B or 2.53B ?

With the 2.66ghz I would be getting a C1 stepping for sure. Whole goal was to push the FSB to 150mhz to get 3.0ghz, switch the memory divider to 3:4 to have 400mhz DDR. At 295 dollars, I had no problem with this idea/setup. At 394 I about puked when I seen the price. Of course, like I said earlier...I think it was a pricing error all along.

I could get a 2.4 or 2.53 and do the same thing, hitting 150mhz for FSB shouldnt be a big problem for either cpu no?

I'll probably just go ahead with it anyways since this is what Ive been planning, just have to save up a little bit more money (more like sell more parts I have laying around).

It may have been a pricing error but they honored my $295 price :) The invoice and my CC bill confirm the $295.

DOH!!! Heh, wanna sell me yours?

Just seen a post below where a brand new 2.66B wouldnt run more than 150mhz FSB. Hmm....maybe this C1 stepping isnt so great after all. Im going to do some checking into what I want I guess. A 2.4 or 2.53Ghz at 150mhz FSB would probably do what I want it to do.

Granite Bay is supposed to be released in early November, and I suppose they'll announce the 3.06 with hyperthreading at the same time. The 2.66 should then drop ~25% to ~300$.

But I know if I had the mobo in my hands, I wouldn't feel like waiting a month to get a CPU. Maybe get a cheapo 1.8A, overclock the crap out of it, and sell it when the next price drop occurs. The 1.8A won't drop much if at all, so you wouldn't lose too much $, and you'll have twice the overclocking fun! :D

Yea but will it go that far, as in whats the success rate/odds of it doing so? Do they have the 512K version of those as well? You've got my attention!

I'd say the odds are pretty good. Yes, the 1.8A is a 512K version. Thugsrook has one for sale that will definitely get there if you dont want to gamble.

I think im gonna take the plunge. This is far from what I had originally planned but what the heck. At 130 bux its worth a gamble. Have seen a lot of 1.6/1.8's running fast speeds, so this should be doable.

I take it I'll be running this at 1.7v for core most likely?

Vcore...hard to say. Depends on how good a chip you get. With any luck you will be lower than 1.7V. Buy from a place like Newegg that sells a lot of them. This way, you are likely to get a CPU with a recent pack date. The newer ones seem to be doing well.

Now im even more bummed out. I take my motherboard out of the box to check things over and find the cpu heatsink/fan bracket severed off. Appears to be damage on the backside also, where the traces come from the cpu socket. No boot up either. Sent out for a RMA to newegg, hopefully have me another one next week sometime. Ordered the new Asus P4PE board with lan too. Not sure which one I'll end up keeping and which one ill sell, probably the P4PE but who knows.

Heh..also upon packaging everything back up I slit my friggin finger on the plate for the rear of the computer..that hurt!
