Bulls Jay Williams crashes motorcycle. Confirmed: Career might be in jeopardy!

Miramonti

Lifer
in a motorcycle accident, 3-4 hours of surgury.

story

/edit: espn said one report had his career in jeopardy. :Q

/edit: "Everyone in the Bulls organization, including (owner) Jerry Reinsdorf, the coaching staff and Jay's teammates, are hurting for Jay and his family," Bulls general manager John Paxson said in a statement released Friday.

"The atmosphere at the Berto Center is one of shock and sadness. The last thing on our minds right now is basketball, and the foremost thought on our minds is that of Jay's health."

/edit: ESPN "sources" say its not life threatening, but he's in intensive care.

That's a shame...not! That's what you get for playing for Duke...now if we could only get Dunleavy, Boozer, and Battier motorcycles...

That's very nice. Wishing bodily injury on people who play for other schools...

Idiot.

Whatever, dude. I was kidding. As much as I dislike Duke and Coach K, I'd never wish ill on them...nor would any Terps fan...Heh.

Yea his first year he wasn't that great, but there was hope for this season.

Lets hope he's ok, not just b/c I like the Bulls but b/c he seemed like a nice guy.

agreed.

and beyond that, he was great trade bait...

While it's a tragedy that the accident happened, it is another blessing in disguise for us Nugs fans. Now another trade rumor that can be scrapped. Two in three days is pretty good.

he sucks anyways
He needs to learn to shoot free throws, 3-pointers, and have a better assist-to-turnover ratio. What a big hype he was.

Which one of the 50 Ex-Duke players were you referring to? It would fit any of them.

wasnt laetner on the dream team? he must have been good...

Pro athletes on motorcycles are idiots....

Dude just cause your a por athlete mean you should stop doing the things that make you happy

when your career depends on your health, like a pro athlete, yes, you should stop participating in dangerous off the field activities....many pro sports even have conditions in their contracts with players that they can't ride motorcycles..that is why Jeff Kent got in trouble last year when he broke his wrist falling off a motorcycle, when his contract said he couldn't ride one. If a team is going to give you many millions of dollars, guaranteed, then you owe it to them to keep yourself healthy.

I have yet to see a story on-line that says anything other than a broken leg - are there other injuries?

Jay Williams can play, he'll be fine (assuming he recovers from this!) as an NBA player. A backcourt of Crawford and Williams can generate a lot of scoring, and like someone else said, he was a nice piece of trade bait too!

I totally agree, especially when these guys have guaranteed contracts, which are ridiculous imo. There are many clauses in football players contracts that say they can't play basketball as well.

he's got a broken leg and a pelvic injury, which apparently the major concern. I'm getting this from espn radio chicago and wbbm. But more ominous imo was the statement by paxson which shows alot of concern imo. Announcements aren't made regarding "prayers" for just a broken bone.

We'll find out for sure later today when official announcements are made tho.

/edit: espn just reported ('sources') its not life threatening, but he's still in intensive care.

Ahh, I figured I'd let them slide...

Agreed. If someone is going to pay me millions of dollars and my next contracts depends on if I play or not, I'd be wearing protective gear everywhere I went. I'd drive 20 MPH in a huge vehicle as to not injure myself. Well that's a little much but I hear what you are saying, when you become a pro athlete you stop doing dangerous stuff, that is just the price you pay to make millions of dollars off of your ability to run, jump, shoot, or catch the ball.

Can anyone tell me why Grant Hill doesn't just retire? His injuries started before he came to Orlando. He hasn't been of any great contribution to the Magic. In fact, he is more of a thorn in the Magic's championship hopes since he eats up so much cap room. Why doesn't Grant do the most honorable thing and just retire. Man I can't stand guaranteed contracts.

probably because he's a basketball player and still wants to play basketball, but if I knew the answer for sure, I'd probably post it in the grant hill thread. 😕
