It's not quite an "alarm" but for $9.88, it's better than having no security system at all. These aren't too difficult to install either, they usually come with color guides for different types of cars.

List Price: $39.99
Our Price: $9.88
You Save: $30.11 (75%)

Some info:

Prevents auto theft and unauthorized vehicle use
Silent arming
Plug-in flashing LED
Two easy-to-use remote controls for arming and disarming
Quickly connects to your vehicle's ignition system

Enjoy
Alex

Cheap car immobilizer = an on/off switch on the ground wire coming from the fuel pump.
Car wont start if the fuel pump isnt grounded :)

So these days in the $300-$400 car alarm market is Viper or Clifford better?

Do they have anything that will page or call your cell phone when your alarm goes off?

Has anyone seen that infomercial for the "AutoLock" .. it goes between the firewall/floor of car and brake pedel. In newer cars you can't shift out of Park easily w/o pressing the brake (there is a way around it and all you need is a screwdriver however; the method is outlined in your car manual! duh) .. but even if they do shift out of park, you cant drive a car when you can't use the brakes... anyone know a way to get "around" it .. I'm tempted to buy one. Looks good but infomercials make anything look good..

Rossman,
As far as I know, the *BEST* alarms on the Market are by Crime Stopper. They are the most advanced alarms I've seen (my buddy does installations) and are INCREDIBLE. I can't vouch for Viper or Clifford having those features, but Crime Stopper has the COOLEST remotes, ones that confirm when a specific function has been completed (ie, lock or unlock trunk/doors), plus the remotes have an LCD screen that displays a picture of what is being done. Just TOO cool, but big bucks too.

Haha, You do get what you pay for. Read any Car Stereo magazine when they have the special Security section and you will see the product is worthless. If you install it your self you might stop a professional thief from stealing your car becuase he'll be ROFL at your security. Even with a $400+ car alarm installed "properly" your car can be stolen in a few minutes.... but time is a car thiefs enemy and that's all car alarms do is slow them down. The better the security the more time it takes but in the end if they have the nerve and skill you better have that Full Coverage Insurance paid up:)

Dont even bother buying this, If you want to get a car alarm make sure it has a SHOCK SENSOR. This does not have a shock sensor. So if someone were to break your window yank your stereo, or strip your whole car you wouldnt even know about it. I can definately vouch for Viper it kicks @ss, Also Look for Sidewinder. It's made by the same folks how make the viper security system. So as long as its made by DEI then you'll know your ok. I had my car broken into last year so i learned alot of things about alarm systems. I would also like to add that it would be a good idea to have the installer include a back up battery for your alarm incase the theif manages to cut the power supply. The battery would cause the alarm to go off instantly and disable your engine if the theif were to cut the power supply. its almost 5am i cant think so if this doesnt make sense dont go off on me. Im out for the night.

drac 747 and all others using Clubs/autolocks/etc...

Funny that they reveal the "trick" to getting around the Club by cutting the steering wheel....howeverm airbag theft makes theives reluctant to damage a steering wheel as they are valuable....

what they dont show you on the autolock tv ad is that a simple CORDLESS CUTOFF SAW (made by black and decker, makita, craftsman and many others) can cut right through the autolock, Club, and anything else in its way!

it looks similar to this (without the water bottle)
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00004YODF.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

A "real" crook will certainly have a cordless cutoff tool, they are whats used to remove Clubs, cut through fences, and get into houses which have bars on the windows....remember NOTHING will stop a thief if they REALLY want your car...security devices just "deter" and make it more difficult..

Example, I have a show car with a Viper security system, Clifford anti-carjacking system (the only one which will shut down a running, moving car 30 secs after its tripped), and a Grant removeable steering wheel...Now to steal this car when all the devices are used, a thief would have great difficulty.......unless he had a flatbed towtruck....again, the true pros do and nothing will stop them...

Also, none of that security will stop a thief from ripping my convertible top, breaking the glass, stealing the stereo, etc...noone pays attention to alarms unless they try stealing it at your house and YOU hear it yourself!

all ANY security device can do is deter the unprofessional bum/thief who just has a screwdriver and is looking for the easy target...a pro will get it every time....

Oh man... so true about pro theives.

My brother got his car jacked with a club on it. The cops found traces of liquid nitrogen on the club..... lets just say it took about 5 seconds to take that damn thing off.

we've all seen gone in 60 seconds right??

at least viper will pay you in the event of loss.

You got a $500 deductible on your car? Special stereo equipment?? Good luck getting any cash out of your broken window and car. Unless you have viper :)

werd.

About $249-300 for viper alarm installed.

About $500-600 for viper alarm with remote start (hehe cold car in the morning? not!)

lojack installer told me:

You'll never find the lojack , if you steal a car with it. We hide it in special places different in each car. You don't even know what it looks like cause we have different looking modules which blend in.

However. he said, Steal the car, park it in a CEMENT underground parking deck for two days, and come back if the car is there, its yours. Lojack writes off the vehicle stolen after 2 days of tracing.

(not that i recommend anyone be stupid and try this), but all services have their fallacy.

Lojack several years ago was like $1000 to install, and no usage fee (until your car is stolen!).

Of course, with lojack, you get a 10% discount off most insurance companies.

So if you are paying ridiculously high teen-age/speed racer rates, it can pay off quite fast!

Lojack is about $600 installed currently, no fees and DOES lower the insurance for many insurers...but the 10% (or whatever percentage your insurer gives) is ONLY FOR A PORTION OF YOUR PREMIUM..not your whole insurance premium...

say your insurance is $1000 a year, and the comprehensive portion is $200,,,you may save 10% off the $200 portion of the premium...check w/your insurance co. to find out exactly how much you will save...

the recovery rate with lojack is in the high 90%%%, but that wont prevent damage /vandalism of the car...also, lojack can only track once youve CALLED them and reported the theft, at which time the thief may have gone several miles or had plenty of time to strip the car

....an alarm with a good anti-carjacking system is better (Cliffords anticarjacking was best last time I evaluated them-it shuts down a moving car about 30 seconds after a theft...others only shut the car down after crook turns it off), as it will activate as soon as the theft occurs, leaving the vehicle immobilized within a few blocks, with the lights flashing and alarm blazing in the middle of the road...not a situation a thief wants to get caught in!
