I figured out my power issue now everything is running ok, I am ready to start it up to put the OS on. I have been into bios setup, have cd as first boot device, hdd as second, tried to put OS in cd to begin (no luck). I am not sure what I need to do first to get started. Not sure how to format and partition hard drive iif that is what is needed. My mobo recognizes all of the drive so I should be ok there. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

chek all your ide cable connections and/or go into the CMOS set up and make sure the HDD is in the bootorder.

my cables are fine and the hdd is second in boot order behind the cdrom, do i have to format and partition the hard drive? it is brand new out of the box?????

You were taking the right approach, which is to boot from the CD-ROM and start the Windows Setup. Windows Setup will partition the hard drive when the time comes, so you won't need to do that in advance.

It sounds like either your Windows CD isn't bootable or else the CD-ROM drive and mobo aren't talking to eachother. Double-check that the data and power cables are firmly seated at the drive, and that the data cable is firmly seated in the motherboard's socket too. Look in the motherboard's BIOS menus and make sure it knows the drive is actually there. I forgot, what mobo is that again, an A7N8X-X?

I double checked the cables and the bios does recognize both the cdrom and hdd. I tried the boot with cd first with os cd in but still nothing. Yes I do have the a7n8x-x.

after I press F1 to continue it says PCI device listing.... then verifying dmi pool data , then boot from cd: then a message says pxe-e61: media test failure, check cable Pxe- m0f: exiting nvidia boot agent then disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter,

This whole process I am not doing any action on keyboard.

any suggestions??

what version of windows are you trying to install, is it a new CD? ie did you recently purchase this copy of windows?

is it an orignial windows cd or is it a copy?

sounds like the disc isn't bootable.. or the CD-ROM isn't working correctly..

try a different disc, if that doesn't solve it, try a different cd-rom drive.. one you know works.

It ought to say "Press any key to boot from CD..." at which point you would press a key to boot from the Windows CD. Is it a real-McCoy Windows CD? Hologram and all that? It's not damaged or dirty, is it?
