Built new PC, Now can't restart...

Hello,

I'm new to the forums. I came here a few weeks ago and browsed the forums when I was looking for ideas for a new computer. I purchased the items as detailed below. I have installed everything and tried to make sure I've followed all instructions carefully. This is the second computer I've put together, so I'm far from an expert. I've installed an OS but the system does not restart. By this, I mean that when I restart the computer stays on, yet nothing appears on the screen. I have to clear the bios before I can get a picture again. This works everytime...

I'm not sure where to go from here. I get a CMOS Checksum error so I know something is wrong with the bios but all the values look to be okay to me (but im not sure exactly what im looking for). I installed win xp pro on this system if that helps anyone understand my situation a bit better. Does anyone have any ideas about this error or what I can do to fix it?

It sounds like your BIOS is corrupted. You may want to go to DFI's BIOS page for your board and download a newer version than the one you have. Some of the newer ones list problems the updates address.

If you've never flashed your BIOS, take your time, and read the instructions carefully. When you finish, it should give you a message that you got a good checksum.

It sounds like your BIOS is corrupted. You may want to go to DFI's BIOS page for your board and download a newer version than the one you have. Some of the newer ones list problems the updates address.

I thought this might do it ... but went to reboot --- same thing happened. I've been reading about possible check sum error fixes and am curious if the battery on the mobo is out, perhaps it is causing this? Again, I'm no expert and truly appreciate your help!

I fixed it. Thanks for all your help. I updated the BIOS and from there made small alterations and slowed some things down, works well now.
