damn...i tried removing the battery for a few minutes to reset the bios to see if i'd have better luck updating then, now after putting the battery back in the PC freezes at the post screen again! grr...

Well, I was able to update the BIOS to the latest verison by downloading an AWARD (v8.22a) flash utility, not using either of Gigabyte's utilities, but then that wouldn't flash either because it said "The program file's part number does not match with your system!" and then the program quit, no option to continue. I was able to get around this by running it with the /F extension.

Once in the new BIOS, I set the multiplier at x9 for 1.8GHz. However, everytime I boot up it says "CPU Operating Frequency 200MHz" as you can see in the image in Post #1 of this thread. I checked to see if the multiplier setting is sticking, and it is. So...don't know if this is an error or if I'm really just running at 200Mhz with an x1 multiplier.

edit: ahh...I misread. It says "CPU Clock Frequency 200MHz"......which I guess is correct. still, confused me because I would expect to see my CPU speed of 1.8GHz at boot up, not the 200Mhz. If I'm wrong, let me know.

It is still freezing right? Hmm.. Try taking your processor/fan off and putting them back on. Heh. I have actually had to do that before.

The reason I had to do that was because my processor actually got stock to the fan so much, that it forced itself out of the socket.. but when that happens, you don't even get to the screen you are at, so I doubt that is it.

Try another powersupply.

No...it has actually stopped freezing (I think). Considering when it was freezing I'd never make it more than 10 seconds into the startup, right now the hard drive is formatting and it's still going....but will it be tomorrow, or in 6 months, I have no idea. I think something may still be wrong and maybe I just found a work around somehow...

I'm in windows now, posting from the new PC.

The problem was......I have no idea....basically, it fixed itself when I let it have a rest for a few hours. The other issues were just typical things along the way. I've been in Windows for a few hours now.

Now if I can just figure out what that Unknown Device is...
