I posted a similar message in Technical support, but I believe this thread may have more viewers, so I am sorry for doing this if it offends anyone.

Hi, I recently ordered some new hardware for a new gaming rig.

Athlon 3400+ clawhammer 1mb
Thermal take venus12 HSF
Chaintech Znf3-250
Corsair XMS 512x2 (1gb ram) pc3200 cl2
Aspire X-navigator 500w case
Xfx geforce 6600gt agp8x

I have a serious problem right now. I have installed everything and to my judgement everything was installed perfectly fine. With that said my problem is that when I power up my system everything turns on. Digidoc that came with the motherboard, case fans, cpu fan, dvd drive, etc... but I receive absolutely no video or beeps. I've stripped it down to just CMR (Chaintech multi media card), my videocard, cpu + hsf. and I still receive the same results. I've been doing research and I have pretty much narrowed it down (taking a education guess) to either the cpu or motherboard. Unfortunately I have moved to a new location and have no friends around to test either product. The cpu was ordered as OEM and the motherboard came in it's original retail packaging. I have also tried changing the ram to old crucial ram on my current system, no go. Tried changing the video card to my old ti4600 also, no go.

If anyone has any solid input on my situation I would appreciate it.

First suggest you take out that CMR Card, and Disconnect EVERY Thing Else Take Down to Just the Mobo, Ram, CPU and Vid card. Then try to get a successful Post.

Second I ask If the Power Light on your Monitor is Green or Orange/yellow

It's orange, it doesn't register a image at all. I have reason to believe maybe the bios chip is defective. I have also tried to clear the CMOS. I'll take out absolutely everything tomorrow morning.

Forgot to mention all the USB port stuff/digidoc is on my motherboard still and havent tested it without it on but I don't know if that would even affect boot up problems.

You did plug the monitor into the vid card's port and not the onboard vid port, right?

I would take everything apart. Remove the motherboard from the case and check for any bits of metal that might be touching the bottom of the motherboard. You'd be surprised how many times a loose screw gets lodged under a motherboard during a system build. If the motherboard is shorting against the case that would cause the problem you described.

Hi,

I have had a similar problem with a DFi Lanparty, as some have said already check to see that its not shorting out underneath. I had left in one of the standoffs by mistake. Took that out and its now OK.
