i have asus rampage formula x48 board ddr2 board
e8600 core2duo
2x2gb corsiar dominator pc8500 1066 mhz ram ddr2
diamond radeon hd4870x2 2gb card
gamextreme 850watt psu
antec 900 case

i am putting it together now, but what is best approach or software and the catalyst to use for card,
i have had nvidia stuff til now and have only ever overclocked simply the gpu with ntune, which was very basic

i have read about "overdrive" but i cant tell if that will even work with my setup since i have an intel processor...

i want to play around with overclocking memory, cpu and gpu over time but i could really use some good clear help on what software to use to configure all of this and monitor/test it, along with some basic settings to start with.

im pretty smart with all of this but need a good smart push in the right direction...thanks so much for your help..

There's a sticky in the CPUs and Overclocking forum about overclocking Core2Duos that will probably answer a lot of your questions.

your video card questions will also be best answered in the video card question. some of the people (like me) go to a lot of sections, but not everyone. as for OCing an ATI card, i dont own a current gen high end ATI card (only a 4670 and a 2900 PRO, other than my 9600 pro and 9800 pro), so i cant tell you how good the catalyst control center's overdrive feature is for OCing, since im running mine at stock. again, ask around the video card forum. you will probably find good answers there

and for overclocking your cpu, there is a sticky i recommend reading here. you will probably be underclocking your ram though, even with an e8600 you will still have plenty of working room with your memory if it's default clock is 1066. an e8600 overclocked to 4.5GHz (super high overclock) would be running 450FSBx10cpu multiplier, or DDR2-900. once you get everything dealt with overclocking your cpu, you can decrease your memory latency to increase memory performance instead of just increasing the speed more, since you dont have any need for higher memory bandwidth for what you're running.

Use the OC feature on the CCC setup. Its fantastic + it offers a fan speed controller. Complete package IMO

The OC feature is = Overdrive ...+ a fan speed controller.

i believe he is talking about the program AMD OverDrive also known as AOD

this program cannot be used with your set-up

for your video card use Catalyst Control Center (comes in your drivers) and go to a tab called overdrive which you can unlock to oc your card.

your processor and ram will have to be overclocked from your BIOS which reading any good sticky about it here will let you know how to go about this.
