Well I just put together a computer yesterday, and everrything is working except for the ethernet. The cat5 is plugged in to both the router and ethernet jack on the mobo properly, and when I go to for instance Internet explorer, it says cannot connect to server instantly. Does anyone have any ideas? This same wire and router works with another computer so its not that.

Welcome to AnandTech Network Forum.

Did you enable the NIC in the Mobo BIOS?

Did you install the NIC drivers?

Did you check the System properties for correct installation assignment of IRQ and Drivers?

Did you install the Network part of the OS?

Ive checked and double checked and I've done both of those, should I just use a regular PCI 10/100 card. I'd rather not because my mobo has Gigabit LAN and it would be nice to share all my files over a faster connection, but if I have to I'll use a regular pci card.

Does it show up in the "Network Devices" list? If not, it's a hardware / driver issue. If it does, but shows as disconnected, it could STILL be a hardware issue, or it could be a cable problem. What are you trying to connect it to? Another PC or a router/switch?

There's a network control panel - Your NIC should show up in the list.
