Hi all,

I just built a Intel q6600 quad system, but my copy of windows xp is the original (no service packs). How do I get it to format my full 500gb drive? Should I let it format the 128gb portion and then format the rest once the OS is installed? I have Partition Magic 8.0. Can this solve the problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd just create one partition for the OS, anything below 128gb (I usually do 40 or 80), and install XP. Next, update it to SP2. Then just create another partition with the remaining space and you should be fine.

Thanks for the help. Im getting a disc read error after windows xp formats the hard drive. Do I need to load SATA drivers for this? My motherboard is the Gigabyte Ga-P35-DS3L. I cant find any SATA drivers on their website.

Any ideas?

thanks,
Tom

should be SATA drivers on the disk that came with the motherboard.

may even have a bootable interface that would allow you to make a SATA driver floppy disk. (my MSI had that.. but i realized it too late for it to be of any use)

Just download SP2 and slipstream it into your XP RTM files. Then enjoy a single large partition.
