Your Weber kettle grill can smoke meats. Set it up for indirect cooking, but with the lump coal only on one side. Put your meats on the other side of the grill on the cooking surface. The only thing you need to watch is the temperature which you'll regulate with the lower and upper vents.

i've done that for baby back ribs, however, i don't want to tend the fire as much as would be required to smoke a brisket. i suppose i could cheat and do 3 in the smoke and 7 in the oven, but i would like to be a little more manly than that.

a smokenator may be good, but can i get it here by thursday?

I'm looking into an upright drum smoker...anybody have a link to a good "how to" writeup? Drums are pretty inexpensive on CraigsList, so it couldn't hurt to try.
