Hey ya'll.

I just built a computer with parts I had lying around and to the best of my knowledge they all worked before hand. Anyway without running post this is what kind of info I can give you.

AMD Athlon? 1.6Ghz
Mobo...unknown (can't find a tag or anything on it)
ATI Sapphire PCI 64MB Card
300W PSU
512MB DDR226
CD-RW
CD
WD HDD 13.5
Floppy
NIC

Anyway without anything plugged in (including the Vid and the NIC) it gives me a long beep then silence then a long beep. I shut it off. Turn it back on and don't get anything. REPEAT!

This happens whether or not anything is plugged into the mobo. I've looked up beep messages and double check all connections but nothing seems to help. Any advice?

I've switched out both memory sticks and neither makes a difference. I also know for a fact that these sticks are good. Do I need a new memory stick or a new cpu or....?

Thanks!

I just put together a computer that would not post. I checked all the connections and everything looked good, but nothing would happen....no beeps, just spinning fans. I took the entire thing apart and noticed that my CPU wasn't completely flush. Once I reinserted the CPU everything began to work.

That's my problem as well. But I can't get the heatsink off. It's a weird AMD one. Any suggestions?

I managed to have it POST finally but now it shuts down after a minute or so of running (freezes and I have to shut it down) I've changed the alert temp and the shutdown temp on it but it only made the problem worse. (I upped the alert to allow a higher temp) Any suggestions or something that I can fix it?

I really don't want to buy another mobo or proc if I really have to but those seem to be the problem with the comp. anyway Thanks for all the help!

I had a posting problem related to the mb shorted by one of the attachment screws. Maybe you should remove as many as possible to lower the chance. I also once put the heatsink in backwards. Had to reverse it after unclipping. One problem just wouldn't solve and after getting a new cpu and RMAing the mb, I took it to a computr store and they put it togher and overclocked it for 80 bucks.
