hi there,

I just recently built an AMD rig. I already have an Intel rig. I wanted opinions on which you would use for gaming. I intend to have 1 pc for general usage (internet, storage, apps..etc) and one strictly for gaming...

Here are the specs for both..

P4 rig specs....

P4 2.53 ghz 533fsb 512 cache
Albatron pevpro rev800 motherboard- intel 845PE chipset
512 mb Kingston hyper x 3200
2 60 gb WD 7200 rpms
Radeon 9700 pro
Creative Audigy 2
Enermax 350 watt p/s

AMD rig specs....

Athlon xp 2800+ Barton
Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard (nforce2)
CORSAIR MEMORY XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series 512MB 32MX8 PC-3500C2 With Heat Spreader
Western Digital 160GB SATA (8mb cache)
Antec trueblue 480 watt p/s
Radeon 9700 pro
Creative Audigy 2

Which one would perform better for gaming?

Thanks in advance

I would choose the Amd system for gaming and use the Intel for general usage.

That's going to be a tough test. Just go ahead and benchmark with each system games you typically play and see which performs better. Then base decisions on the results.

My guess would be that the AMD system will perform better.

Id' say your gonna be hard pressed to notice the difference to be honest.
The AMD will load games quicker, and may play them smoother too. Just try both?

Overclock both systems, then benchmark, and see which one actually performs faster.

I'd use the AMD for gaming, though they both would be VERY capable machines.
I'd also think about possibly getting another 512MB of ram for the one you choose to use as your gaming rig.

I don't think there is any question about that.
The AMD system should be faster than the Intel one, since the P4 is only 533MHZ bus, not 800MHZ bus.

Awesome,

Thanks a ton guys for all the replies...

Im gonna go ahead and benchmark both systems and see what i come up with..

The p4 is running @ 2.85 ghz @1.550 volt and i scored 5300 in 3d mark 2003.

I just built my AMD system, and i don't know to much about overclocking AMD rigs.

On my p4, i just raised the FSB and Raised the voltage.

Would it be the same process for overclocking the Barton? Do i have to mess with the multiplier and such?

Thanks in advance..
