DD-WRT is free firmware that orignal ran on Linksys's popular WRT54G router. It is based on OpenWRT and maintained by BrainSlayer at dd-wrt.com. Now with it able to run on standard X86 hardware it is no longer limited by the lack of ram and slow cpu in Linksys's WRT54G .

(note: Wireless will not work.)

Please post results if you try this.

The DD-WRT x86 firmware is still in beta and the free version does not include wireless support so I'm not sold yet. I think IPCop, SmoothWall, Mon0Wall, ClarkConnect are better options for an easy to set-up and stable home Linux router today.

Interesting evolution of a popular product in the "flash your $30 router and make it a $500 router" concept - will be interesting to see how it does once stable code is released and an easier to use bootable CD install is available.

*edited, found the free though somewhat gimped versions of DD-WRT x86 are available..
