I am getting sick and tired of lugging around my gigantic desktop computer. I was wondering if anyone had done any mods or projects with turning a large desktop into a smaller one, preferably with a handbuilt case. I am looking to have an integrated 4" LCD, and no PCI and AGP cards. I am looking at the nForce motherboards of course, but none seem to have the TV out that the LCD would require. I guess I dont need it but it would be so damn cool. I will also want to use a laptop CDRW and a laptop DVD drive, does anyone have any experience using these on standard EIDE interfaces?

I think that this will be afun project, and I would like to see it fit into a space 3" high, and 15 or 16 wide.

Thanks,
Paul

FlexATX size? The problem is AMD processor cooling requirements. It's difficult to fit a sufficient HSF into a very small space for these processors. Have you considered bookcase size flexATX cases, or are they too big?

if you go for a laptop processor, the mobile athlon 4 or mobile duron you could have a nice machine and have little problems with heat.

I don't think you need a mobile CPU/chipset for a nice little machine. FYI, my SlimPC only uses 1 low RPM fan for the PSU.

Yeah, I want it to be somthing along those lines. I would really like it to have a laptop sized CD-ROM drive, since that saves a TON of space. I dont think I will put a floppy in it. So basically I am looking for a micro ATX sized motherboard that can take an Athlon 1Ghz (that is what I have now) and has a decent video card, and possibly video out to hook up an LCD. I wanted to put in a touchpad for those emergency pointing needs. Basically that would allow me to take in anywhere that has power and plug in a decently fast computer to play MP3's, watch DiVX movies/DVD's, and do general work (with or without an external monitor). I have a 17" LCD also which would make the whole thing rather portable :).
