Is that what we're saying

Athlon 64's have the memory controller on-die, so it's running at full processor clock speed.

1.8 GHz (A64 2800+) > 800 MHz

there's something u dont seem to understand here......the fsb on the intel and amd run at the SAME speed. both are at 200mhz. the 1mb cache does not mean that the p4 is better....it just means the p4 needs more cache to operate efficiently, thats the way the architecture is.

edit: u cant compare the two processors on numbers only....the arcitectures are different. thats y a 1.8 a64 can match a 3.2 p4.

So why is it faster?

*Sigh* Read the articles around here, you'll learn something.

3.2 GHz is the clock speed of the P4. The FSB is 800 MHz.

An Athlon 64 3200+ actually runs at 2.2 GHz. But because the memory controller is integrated, the FSB also runs at 2.2 GHz.

So while the processor may run at a lower clock speed, the overall performance of your system is better. Clock speed is not the only deciding factor in system performance.

although this is by amd- link

the way that i heard it explained was that the p4 had a longer pipeline, but the transfer is slower. amd has a shorter pipeline, but transfer is faster. they are equivelent speed in real-life though.

this is one of the biggest myths in the realm of computers [myth of megahurtz].

Some of you guys are pretty f'n sarcastic..
I asked because i wanted our opinions, and why, if i wanted to read the articles i would have.
Thanks though to those of you who understand what i'm asking and want to help.
What you said makes sense and i agree.
