I just discovered the killer deal of the ASUS S96J barebones 15.4" wide X1600 notebook off of ExcaliberPC.com. So far, I've got it pieced together with a 60 GB Hitachi TravelStar (SATA) @ 7200RPM, a DVD/CD superdrive and 2 x 1 GB Patriot DDR2-667.

Now, for the processor. For some reason, Newegg doesn't carry the T2500, so I've been thinking about grabbing that from ExcaliberPC for $328.09. Now, I see the T2400 on NewEgg for $254, or $206 open box. Is the extra $70 (or $120) worth it to have the T2500 over the T2400? And what about buying an open box product, is it safe?

Most of the time open box proccesors from newegg are from technically unknowlageable persons sending back parts that they cant install, don't understand, or ordered an incompatable part. I think it is a great way because if its damaged you can always send it back right away.

I'd go with the T2400. It's not that much faster, and the extra 120$ can be spent on your signifigant other, or more RAM.
