Building new system!

I am going to be building a new system soon like next month and i would like to know specs you guys recomend. I have ideas I am bored so i decided to ask. I am a gamer but i don't want to spend a fortune on a system. This will be built piece by piece so i can wait to buy certain stuff such as waiting to buy the video card last and or the cpu. I am currently thinking about a 1.8AGhz or should i go with a 2.0A? Video card i want Nvidia i think i will buy it last and get the ti4600. Whats a good motherboard and such if you could help this would be great!

I see you have a 1.6 now. Is that a Willamette or Northwood core? The 1.8A would be a fine CPU for you, but I don't think it will offer a substantial increase over your 1.6. Overclocking the 1.8A could make it worth while though, but the 1.6A's also oc'd well.

As for the MB, good values are the Albatron PX845PEV PRO or the Abit BE7. In case you've heard about the latest Intel chipset called Granite Bay, the word on those is they won't be cheap, so that doesn't sound like what you're looking for. Don't neglect good memory or a solid power supply. I still don't consider RDRAM a good value, so some good DDR would suit you. The fastest memory right now is the Corsair XMS PC3500, but as long as you stick to reputable brands, you'll be fine. Concerning the PSU, Antec, Enermax, and Sparkle supplies are well regarded. Look for a supply that is rated between 350 - 400 watts. Good luck with your upgrade. Peace

If you want a considerable improvement over what you have now go for the P4 2.66. With some simple FSB overclocking you can get the 2.66 from 3GHz - 3.2GHz even with retail cooling. Granite bay chipset motherboard of course. Add another memory module identical to what you have now to take advantage of the dual memory controllers of granite bay. Wait for a NV30 based graphics card.

Final Recommendation
----------------------------
Granite bay chipset motherboard
Intel 2.66 processor
Nvidia NV30 based graphics card
Micron 256MB DDR266 memory module (identical to your current module)

Cheers!
