I'm building a new system...
can you guys tell me if it's worth what I'm paying

from a guy i'm buying the following
P4 2.4b
Asus P4T533 850E
samsung PC1066 RDRAM 256*2=512
for $330

new of the following
WD 160 gig 8meg $98
Sound blaster audigy $100
vid = no clue of yet still deciding with current budget

Not a good deal on that combo. You can do much, much better.

Something like this from Newegg:

pqi POWER Series 184-Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 - OEM $74.00
ABIT "IS7" i865PE Chipset Motherboard for Intel Socket 478 CPU -RETAIL $89.00
Intel Pentium 4/ 2.4C GHz 800MHz FSB, 512K Cache, Hyper Threading Technology - Retail $145.00

Total (Before tax): $ 308.00

Just to give you an idea of what's out there

I think you're getting ripped. You're paying way too much for the CPU/MB/RAM combo. They are all pretty well outdated.

Check out this setup:

EPoX "EP-8KDA3J" nForce3-250Gb Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket 754 CPU -RETAIL

A64 3000+

512MB Mushkin DDR400

Total without S/H: $313

You'll paying LESS with this setup, but you're going to get a great deal more performance. Let me check Mwave....I think they have some good combo deals that will save you even more.

Oh, and what are you planning on using this system for?

Here's some bundles:

AMD

Intel

I'm just gonna just use for internet but once in a while I would like to play doom3 and half life 2 once in a while

Yes I think I got the message after first 2 guys said that...

I'm looking for some of the recommendations as sonic586 suggested
