Hey everyone thanks in advance for all help. I'm about to build my first from the ground up, though ive upgraded and changed out motherboards. Btw I have added a detailed parts list at the bottom of this post.

Anyways where to start? My main concern is that my CPU being a mobile Athlon XP1500 that came out of a wrecked laptop will not work in my desktop motherboard. Or Even worse that it may damage my _new_ motherboard, or fry the cpu >:) Some folks have told me it'll never work and it'll kill the CPU while others tell me all I have to do find voltage setting for cpu and set the vClock to it. I'd like to hear from anyone who has ever tried this or has knowledge about what my chip is exact, cpu number is in my parts list.

Hmm, I guess to shorten this post up I'll just ask what exactly I'd like to find out, since this place was recommended by my buddy for being top notice :)

1.) Has anyone ever did this, or knows where to find info on my CPU, like what kind for sure it is and what the settings are for it.
2.) If anyone is familiar(?) with my motherboard i'd like to know
bios it has and how exactly do you change voltage settings? <==!!
3.) If I change voltage settings do I do it without CPU in or out?
Here is my part list!
4.) Is that thermal paste stuff part to put on? ;P

Use common sense; if your motherboard doesn't explicitly say that it's meant for the Mobile CPU then it's probably a REALLY DUMB idea to put one in.

If you really want to use the notebook CPU, you should find a notebook mobo.

Who's your online buddy, Wduaqnug? :p

1) Yes. I was running a Mobile Athlon 1.0 for awhile. Worked fine.
2) BIOS you can find on the POST/boot screen of your motherboard. Go to MSI's site and find the manual for your K7T266
3) Doesn't matter, as long as it's not running while you do it. :p
4) I assume you mean "hard" - and no. Generally if you have the motor skills necessary to put a computer together, thermal paste isn't a challenge.

And a few more things regarding the forums. There is a signature option in the profile so you can put your specs in there. Better yet, open an account on the main page (My Anandtech) and enter it into the "System Rigs" database then just post the link.

And oh yeah - Welcome to the Hotel California of forums.:D
