Ok, I'm looking at building a new system pretty soon, and I've so far priced out two systems and I wanted to get opinions on each of them. I'm not really on either side of the Intel vs AMD argument, so I want to get whatever system is the best value, Intel or AMD doesn't matter to me. I've heard that the Intel Pentium 4 1.6A is a great overclocker and can hit the 133 FSB most of the time, is there anyone out there that hasn't found this to be true? I want to be able to overclock the Intel system if I get it, but I'd like to find out before is anyone has had problems with the Pentium 4 1.6A overclocked with the 133 FSB. And of course any other comments on these two systems would be great. Thanks!

Note: All prices are from Newegg.com

AMD System

Asus A7V333 w/RAID $134.00
Mushkin 512 (256x2) DDR 2700 $166.00
Athlon XP 1800 (1.53 Ghz) Retail $108.00
Gainward GeForce 4 4200 128 MB $206.00
Addtronics ET6896A Case $80.00
Antec 400 watt PWS $59.00

Total $753.00

Intel System

Asus P4S533 Retail $105.00
Mushkin 512 (256x2) DDR 2700 $166.00
Intel Pentium 4 1.6A Retail $139.00
Gainward GeForce 4 4200 128 MB $206.00
Addtronics ET6896A Case $80.00
Antec 400 watt PWS $59.00

Total $755.00

Edit: Got to have a P4 PWS in there :p

overclocking is alwaysa crap shoot. You roll the dice and hope for the best. Yes a few people havent been able to reach 133 fsb, but that is expected to happen. So if you plan to overclock then go with the intel, if not the amd system will do. simple has that.

Just keep in mind you take gamble at reaching those higher speeds.

The Intel (if overclocked to a 533 or higher FSB) will be quite a bit faster than the 1800+, at this point in the game there's really no point in building a new Socket A system.

sure there is, I won't build a customer a overclock system. And are you asuming people reach 133 FSB 100%, cause that is not true either, it maybe a majority of the time, but I never 100% of the time. I

I second that opinion... If not to overclock, the AMD is tought to beat.

Intel cpus have built in thermal protection. AMD cpus do not.
How much risk do you want to take?

I'm not too worried about that problem, although I have thought about it, because I've never had a heatsink fall off yet. I don't view the risk as the deciding factor, although I am considering it.
