building new machine

I've been out of the loop for a while and will be building a new machine after black friday. I'm looking for a pc to play latest games and run windows 7 64-bit

My current setup
amd x25000
foxconn ma570sli
evga 8800gt
3 gb ram
windows xp 32 bit

it runs fine, plays all current games at decent fps, just giving it to my younger brother. I need input on what videocards to get. Im not looking for top of the line equipment. a midrange system will suffice.

ATI OR NVIDIA?
windows 7 64 bit or 32 bit?
4 gigs enough?
DDR2 RAM or DDR3?
intel or amd?
quadcore?

ATI OR NVIDIA? ATI get the 5850 a lot cheaper then the 5870 but it supports directx 11
windows 7 64 bit or 32 bit? 64 Bit. This way you can add/support more than 4 GB's of ram.
4 gigs enough? 4GB will do for now if your just playing games.
DDR2 RAM or DDR3? DDR 3
intel or amd? Intel Core i7 or i5
quadcore? only if your doing some heavy multitasking/encoding videos/plan on doing VMWARE?

no vmware, so i guess dual core will do. any good deals on the 5850? Also what size psu?
