Wow, that thing looks real nice. Why does the DVD rom and Cd-writer have to be scsi? I dont see anything wrong with the IDE ones. Your not planning on doing any overclocking are you?

SCSI cdr and dvd are good choices. Usually faster and more reliable for cdr. I would probably check out other motherboards though, such as the Soltek SL-75DRV2, it looks like a better board for around the same price IMHO. Check out some reviews on it(plus alot of good software comes with it too). If money is no object though, try the Abit KR7a-Raid, it's a bit more but looks like it's the best in the KT266a chipset mobo out on the market now. Hehe That's what I'm getting.

scsi for the cd-writer, no, dont do it, you would be downgrading .. a plextor 24/10/40 is about 150, fastest plex in scsi will be 12, it just makes sense, as for your dvd, ok check out the Pioneer DVD-305s, i believe it is 50 pin, the adaptec 39160 is a dual channel controller .. well good luck ..

Sweet system you have there. I just wanted to suggest you get some round IDE cables too. You're going to have quite some clutter in your case with all those drives split on two interfaces. It will be reduced with a full tower. If that case you have is a full tower, then it's all good. Man, that is such a nice system. Heh.

It seems the general consensus thinks I should scrap the Epox, so thats what i've decided to do.

Here's the new feedback, anything that was chanced has become bolded.

CPU: AMD athlon xp 1900 +
Mobo: Abit KR7a-Raid
Memory: 1 gig of DDRAM pc2100, 2 dimms
Hard Drive 1: Seagate Cheetah X15-36LP Ultra160 SCSI 36.7GB
HD cooler: Vantec Ultimate Hard Drive Cooler
HD 2: Western Digital 100 gig caviar
HD controller: Adaptec 29160 Kit ultra160 scsi controller
Video card: Geforce 3 ti 500, 64 mb, asus deluxe
Sound card: Creative Audigy platinum ex
Network card
Case: Koolance 2nd generation
OS: Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Power supply: Enermax 431W EG465P-VE(FC)
DVD rom and CDRW: Staying scsi

Anyone got poor/good feedback about any of the new parts? or any of the old parts :)

Thanks a ton for everyones help, Currently I run a 933 mhz with 256 ram and a gf2 =P this is gonna be one heck of a jump.

The reason taht I'm going to be going SCSI for the cdrom and cdrw is just based on reliability.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

If you are going to make the mistake of putting the CDRW and CDROM on the IDE interface instead of the SCSI adapter then I say scrap the SCSI entirely as you are gonna have an entire SCSI subsystem for one 37Gb drive..? That would be silly.. :)

Enlight PSUs supposedly have problems where the 5v lines can dip below 4.8 or so. The EPoX board (8KHA+) can suffer instability from that, but I'm not sure about the Abit KR7A. Either way, I'd probably ditch the PSU for something from another company for the sake of the 5v line. The Antec 400W PP403X is a very good choice and can be had for ~$70. There are more good PSUs but I wouldn't get an Enermax.

I wouldn't scrap the EPoX. It is just as good as the KR7A, unless you plan on making a RAID array. Of course, the main benefit of sticking with EPoX is to save some money. It doesn't look like money is a problem for you. =)

You would have zero problems with an Enermax 350W power supply.

There are NO reliability problems with IDE. It's simply a transfer protocol (for lack of better words).

I don't believe there are any Ultra160 SCSI DVD-Roms or burners. They wouldn't need the extra bandwidth the Ultra160 standard would provide.

I know there is a Plextor UltraPlex 40X Wide drive, but that's it. I have a Plextor 8x20 SCSI burner and a Teac CD532s SCSI reader. For hard drives, I have two SCSI 36gig Cheetahs (10k) so I know how nice it is to stay with SCSI. However, it is rather costly, so unless you already have the stuff it may be a better idea to get IDE drives and RAID them or something.

I'll have the adaptec 29160 kit, will that be good enough for 2 scsi cd's and 1 scsi hd?

what are you doing that you need a scsi hard drive?

and yes, 1 card should be just fine for 3 devices. drive transfer rates aren't that high.
