First off this machine is gonna be mainly used for gaming. Im gonna try overclocking it and was wondering if the ram i selected is good enough for that. In about a month or two im gonna be buying a watercooling system for it and was wondering if 500watts is enough to power the computer and the watercooling system. Also does know what kind of shape the factory refurbed monitor will be in? Im not expecting brand new but i would hate to get one with scracthes all over the case of it and one the screen.

Total price including shipping should come around $1530
 
Couple things I would change:
BFG 6600GT for $250???, Newegg has 6800's for just over $260. Worth the $10 for a better performing card.

Athlon 64 3200+, sure thats good, but you could go cheaper and get a 3000+ (939 90nm) for less. The 3000+ will overclock from 1800MHz to 2400MHz easy, even with that RAM.
Set your divider to 133/200 and FSB at 267. Up the CPU core to 1.5v and the HT bus to 3x and your good to go to 2400MHz. These settings will keep the RAM under 200 and the HT bus under 1000. You can try tweaking these combinations if you like but that will give you a good start that should work reliable.
I have a 3000+ with that same motherboard and have it running stable (Prime95 tested) at 2500MHz on the stock HSF.
 
Looks good, but the 6800 GT would make more sense.


If you indeed do want a 6600GT, why not go with an NF4. They are just coming out and a PCIe 6600GT costs like $175.
 
how much will i notice the step up from 6600GT to the 6800? Also what are your guys thoughts on the PSU
 
I'll say this much. I have a 8088 from 82 that has a fortron PSU that still works. I think it should suit your needs.

But if you want top o line nowadays its PCP&C
 
for an extra 60$ you could get a AMD 3500+. Also these guys are right about trying to get a 6800. Performance will definatly increase, especially since you are a gamer. But if money is a concern for you then i think youll get good bang for your buck
 
For a serious gamer it would be wiser to get the 3000 and spend the extra $54 on a better vid card. If you can afford a A3200 and a G6800, great, but if its a choice between the two take the G6800 and a A3000
 
i would tone down the CPU to a 3000, tone down the case and PSU, and use the cash saved for a 6800GT. that will destroy the rig you are making for gaming
 
Yeah, that case is way too expensive if you are on any sort of budget. Try to find a nice Antec or something (>$80 less), they are much cheaper and don't look too bad. Save $50 on the CPU as well. A 3000+ will OC passed a 3200+ and probably to around 2400 MHz fairly easily.

If you are really pinching pennies, you may also want to check out the EPoX 9NDA3+ motherboard. It has the same feastures as the MSI, but is about $15 cheaper. It is also excellent for OCing.

That is is $145 in savings right there that can be pout towards a very nice graphics card.
 
I heard the Antec PSU's don't work so well with the MSI Neo2 Platinum. I've seen many issues with them and in some cases either the PSU or motherboard would die out when using these two together =/

That wont have anything to do with the PSU.

Additionally do not get a SATA NCQ HDD when your M/B does not have support. If you want to use the NCQ on the HDD then get an Nforce 4. Also dont get the BFG 6600GT way too expensive and no better than the MSI NX6600GT which is ~180 at Newegg. I would get the MSI card keep the HDD and spend the extra money saved on the video card to get an Nforce 4 board.

Well it seems pretty obvious that i should get a 6800GT or at least a 6800 in general. Which brings me to my next question. Is there a big difference between the 6800 and 6800GT in terms of price vs performance. As far as the case goes i really wanted to buy a good looking quality case that would last me a few computers and had enough room in so i could fit a watercooling system in it. Also what does ncq stand for and what does it do and is it worth having?

The 6800GT(350/1000) is better thana 6800 vanila....16 pipelines instead of 12....It really shows up in benchmarks.......Plus you can easily O/C it to ultra speeds (400/1100)........

Turning a 6800 into a 6800GT by enabling the extra 4 pipelines is really a hit and miss affair.....

NCQ=> Native Command Queuing. Hard Disk Drive technology....Nice to have, but its really only benificial to computer which have server many different I/O request at the same time. (i.e. a DataBase server). in other words, don't pay extra for it..

IMO I would recommend the following changes.
1.Get a Cheaper Case...
2. You really don't need that 500W powersupply. get a good 350W to 400W instead.
3. Get a 6800GT and O/C that to an ultra.
4. Drop that DVD burner if you budget is tight inorder to get the 6800GT...you can aways pick one up later on with spare change.......

 
If i get a 6800GT and a amd 3000 will i have to much video card and not enough cpu. Also will a 400watt PSU be able to power this computer and a watercooling system at the same time?
 
That's pretty much impossible with any A64 processor. A A3000 could handle a 3Dlabs Wildcat Realizm 800 which which easily cranks 4-6 times the bandwidth of any ATi or nVidia.

If you get a serious watercooling rig you'd have a seperate PSU for it anyway like one of these.

And thast's only if your going to be running TECs. Otherwise the only power would be a few fans and a pump. And a decent pump to handle your rig would pull 2 amps at most.
 
i'd go with something bigger than 350w.... atleast 400w. I think that card requires 300w to run and you'd want ample power comming from a QUALITY PSU ofcourse to keep your other components running rich.
