I am just getting back into computers. I have been reading around and am just trying to start on getting a price check on things and figuring out what will be coming out and what computer parts will be dropping in price.

I am trying to figure out how much I will need to set aside basically in the next 2 morths to be able to build something nice really, and what changes I will need to make for this monitor, to make use of all it is worth. For which ever one I go with.

I am going to get the dell 2405fpw or the 3007fpw, but that just depends on how much the cost of this computer build panes out to be. It looks like I would be able to find a 2405fpw right now for $500 - $550 and the 3007fpw for about $1250~ under $1100 if you can get a coupon deal... I am thinking that the best time to buy one of these will be the beginning of next year?.. I was also thinking of buying a 2405fpw in January and then buying the 3007fpw when I find a good deal on it and sell the 2405fpw...

As for the actual computer, I was thinking of this:

CPU: E6300 C2D
RAM: 2x1gb Corsair XPS PC6400
VGA: 7900gt -------------------- (Really need some help on this part...)
Mobo: Asus P5B (I think that was it)
PSU: Fortron 500w
Case: Lian-Li PC60 maybe..
Audio: Audigy X-Fi F4t4l1ty
Keyboard: Saitek Eclipse
HDD1: Seagate 500gb 7200rpm - maybe??
Mouse: Wireless G7
Mousepad: --- (I forget off the top of my head)
Headset: --- (I forget off the top of my head, but this is imp. also as I can't stand my ears hurting from wearing headsets...)
OS: Already have a retail copy of Windows XP Pro.

Now if I remember right, the newegg price check came out a little high, and I am sure I can find a good bit of this stuff on the forums here. About $1300 without the monitor or something on newegg.

I am curious as to what I will need or want in the next 2 months for this rigs setup. Just needing some suggestions. I would even consider monitor suggestions, but I don't really want to go small...

Also how low do you think I would be able to find a Dell 30" after this year? below $1000?

I noticed that some RAM are getting rebates to generate slow sales. Maybe, if you wait longer, the prices may get better.

If you have to buy now, buy what you need and be happy.

Really appreciate the detailed PM about what is going on in the computer world right now. I am going to look at that a lot closer when I get home tomorrow from work.

I will be able to wait a pretty good while as I don't have a ton of money saved up just yet. Around of the beginning of Jan. to late January is really when I want to have the project finished, but I am also going on vacation for about a week and a half in december. I know I will have a good 2 months to look around.

You're smart to take your time with your build.
With the RAM manufacturers offering rebates on their high-priced RAM, it looks like after XMAS, the prices may become realistic.
Like most of us, I don't spend all kinds of money for my builds too.
May I suggest you look at recent "new" computer pulls. There is a great possibility of substantial savings.
I've picked up some great deals on videocards or HDDs. Who cares if its last year's model, if they can do the same work, why not? Saving bucks is why we look for deals.

Good luck!
