Building new computer...advise needed

Have been out of the loop since I built my last computers (939 agp and 939 pcie). Currently running 3500 winnie and a 170 opteron. Oldest son wants me to put something together, preferable under $1000. Monitor is not needed. From looking at things going for a 939 board is not a viable option. Looking at the price/peformance the amd 6000 AM2 or the intel 6600 would be a good choice. I am familiar with the MSI and DFI boards (939) only. Need advice on what boards to get for either the AM2 chip and the intel. Ram has changed too. Totally lost there. He wants at least 2 gig of ram. Looks like there might be another price drop from intel...may wait for that. Anyway, was hoping that some of you people who stay up on this could throw me some solid advise as to what direction we should go. Not asking for you to specifically give me a link (to time consuming for you) but rather just share some of your expertise.

pictures, video, music and some moderate gaming will be done on this machine

Hmm. A common question. I would look at Intel, they have a good upgrade path, AMD AM2 motherboards may not work with upcoming AM2+ CPUs, time will tell. A good reference would be: http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware...e-Gaming-PCs-Budget-ftopict228067.html

from that guide I like the E4300 OC build

$1000 Budget

E4300 OC Build #2
Aim: Strong gaming performance. Super fast processor.

This Intel build is based upon the E4300 and its ability have a cheap overclock. It is merely an upgraded version of the last build.

Why the E4300 again and not the E6300/E6400/E6600? The E6400 and E6300 hvae become Allendale's, and their OC has been impaired. The E6600 is available if you use the X1950Pro instead of the 8800GTS.

Case: (variable, check Case Selection.)
$45
For build purposes, $45 (Centurion 5) is the assumed price. Price may fluctuate depending on case.
