Hello all,

I'm looking to build a new computer (mine is worth a door stop).

I'm somewhat limited on budget, so I'm looking for all the good deals on Newegg - discounts/combos/etc. I believe I've found a PSU that would fit with my case that I've selected.

Case - Antec:

PSU - Rosewill 600W:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817182032

My first concern is related to the cooling fan on top of the Rosewill PSU, would that have any effect on its performance at all? It would face up, and then the case fan inside would point towards it of course. Your thoughts? Its pretty much just opposite but maybe some of you have some experience with this.

(alt. PSU - Raidmax Hybrid 530W??:

Here are the rest of the items I plan on purchasing for my new rig:
V-Card - EVGA 8800GT 512MB PCI-E 2.0:

CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo Wolfdale 3Ghz 6MB L2 Cache:

Motherboard - Gigabyte (energy saver/DDR2&3 support):

RAM - G.Skill 4GB (2x2GB) DDR1000 Dual Channel:

HDD - WD Caviar 500GB SATA:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16822136073

What are your suggestions? Am I good to go? I've been trying to map this out for about two weeks now, and I've tried to get the best for my limit - I was shooting for $800 but tax and shipping gets me a little bit over $900 anyway, oh well. Ever since the GeForce 6800 Ultra GPU, and the P4 EE processors, I've been getting further behind the technology, so I need a major upgrade.

Thanks a bunch. :)

Those are pretty crappy power supplies; stick with Corsair (cheapest from buy.com)
8800gt can be had for $130 after rebate on newegg and $160 is getting into 8800gts price range.

PCIe 2.0 means nothing, it's a checkmark feature for the marketing departments right now as 1.0 isn't even fully utilized. For the price range you're looking in you should be going for either a 8800GTS 512MB or one of the new 4850's from ATI. Regarding Buy.com, they've been around for a long time and most people have no issues with them. Every e-tailer has their bad moments, even the vaunted Newegg. I've bought many items from Buy.com and have never had an issue myself. If money is an issue, they almost always have the best PSU prices of any store, including the egg.

I myself have bought things from buy.com including power supplies and think they have some great deals. They've also recently fixed their website so it's not as slow as it used to be. Also, you don't need 550W unless you are going to SLI 2 8800GTs so go with the 450W to save money.

Alright maybe I'll go with the 450 watt from buy.com. I wasn't sure on my wattage needs. Checked a wattage calculator and I guess it was right. Are you sure 2.0 is worthless? It's compatible in 1.X motherboards and if ever I upgrade my motherboard I'd have that extra use when it becomes fully utilized. It'll look into that unless you have a link that discusses it.

thanks
